Overview

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking a Safety & Health Specialist or Senior Safety & Health Specialist to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS).

The Safety & Health Specialist or Senior Safety & Health Specialist monitors, analyzes, and investigates workplace activities and potential hazards to support company initiatives within assigned area or facility(s) through review of work packages, assessments, walk downs, and/or observations. Identifies hazardous workplace conditions and removes hazards and/or protects employees by guarding, revising work procedures, and training or requiring use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment. Responsible for identifying and mitigating hazardous conditions that affect workers, property, the environment, and the general public. Takes effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal, state, local and organization occupational safety and health standards, ensuring that all required records are prepared and maintained. Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections and in any procedures that may follow a citation. Investigates, prepares, and forwards as required reports on injuries and fatalities.

Responsibilities

A Safety & Health Specialist (Grade 66):

  • Assumes technical responsibility for one or more related phases of the Safety and Health (S&H) Program within assigned area that are low to moderate risk.

  • Evaluates proposals and makes recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks.

  • Assists design teams to identify safety and health specifications and design requirements of low to moderate risk work packages.

  • Educates, observes, and ensures all personnel are performing work in compliance within assigned area.

  • Performs conventional practices of S&H by anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling occupational hazards in the workplace through job scope reviews, walk downs, and general observations.

  • Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in assigned area of minimal impact.

  • Responsible for compiling and providing all documentation from investigation.

  • Conducts facility and self-assessments of limited scope.

  • Supports emergency response drills and regularly attends Local Safety Improvement Team (LSIT) meetingsto provide guidance and support.

  • Demonstrates considerable knowledge and understating of company and industry specific regulatory requirements/standards.

  • Assists more senior personnel in the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems, and procedures.

  • Researches innovative techniques, materials, equipment to implement into company, ensuring the quality of programs.

  • Supports the preparation and review of written programs, job hazard analyses, personal protective equipment assessments and other health and safety program elements as requested.

  • Promotes compliance with required Experience Modification Rate (EMR), Total Recordable Case (TRC) and Days Away Restricted or Transferred (DART) established goals.

  • Serves as a company Subject Matter Expert of a specific S&H program.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional responsibilities for a Senior Safety & Health Specialist (Grade 67):

  • Prepares and reviews written programs, job hazard analyses, personal protective equipment assessments and other health and safety program elements.

  • Generates trending reports for performance indicators as requested. Tracks personnel and facility exposure doses.

  • Assigns, tracks, and sends reminders to complete facility S&H required reading assignments. Generates and reviews trending reports through Site Tracking, Analysis & Reporting (STAR) application.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED or Associates degree and related experience

OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering or related science and related experience

Additional information:

  • Must have a flexible schedule to work on-call as delegated by schedule

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications for a Safety & Health Specialist (Grade 66) and Senior Safety & Health Specialist (Grade 67):

  • Fundamental knowledge of S&H standard theories, practices, concepts, principles and techniques;

  • Working knowledge of pertinent S&H practices and applications.

  • Certified as Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)/ Occupational Health and Safety Technologists (OHST)

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)

  • Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

Additional Preferred Qualifications for a Senior Safety & Health Specialist (Grade 67):

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) with intent to obtain Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.

  • Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) with intent to obtain Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), a prime contractor for the US Department of Energy, is responsible for managing the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site’s Liquid Waste operations contract. Located in Aiken, South Carolina, SRMC is a limited liability company formed by nuclear operations and environmental remediation global leaders BWXT, Amentum, and Fluor. Minimum Pay

USD $72,936.00/Yr.

Maximum Pay

USD $145,704.00/Yr.
