About the Position
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company maintains an in-house research effort in the areas of polymers and polymer manufacturing.
The Polymer Technology Group within Goodyear operates research labs and small scale polymerization units in support of the new product and process development efforts of the company.
The technician is an integral part of this team along with Chemists, Chemical Engineers and Polymer. This position performs as a machine/equipment and test operator in a laboratory, research or industrial facility.
The work will be carried out in small scale polymerization facilities with the objective of developing emerging new products as well as improving existing manufacturing processes.
This position must be able to follow work instructions and/or test methods and comply with all laboratory safety procedures while operating in a team.
In addition, the incumbent will be in a facility that requires to work off-shift approximately two weeks per month
Primary Responsibilities
Operate small scale batch and continuous polymerization and finishing units
Prepare polymer and other samples according to customer requests
Set up and operate small glassware laboratory apparatus
Operate a variety of testing equipment including: Mooney viscometer, gas chromatograph, differential scanning calorimeter
Compile and interpret results of tests
Record process conditions and observations accurately
Troubleshoot, maintain and clean laboratory and process equipment
Provide technical support and assistance to chemists and engineers
Communicate thoroughly and clearly with fellow operations technicians, engineers and customers
Follow all safety and environmental work practices
Required Education and Experience
High School Diploma required
Technical Associate's degree preferred
Prior experience in laboratory or industrial facility preferred
Desired Skills and Abilities
Mechanical and/or chemical aptitude
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
Ability to operate both manual and semi-automated industry machinery
Ability to perform tasks or operate multiple equipment/machines within any work day
Solid computer and basic math skills
