University at Albany Full-Time Lecturer (10 Months) - Sociology in Albany, New York

The Department of Sociology at the University at Albany, State University of New York, invites applications for the position of Full-Time Lecturer (10-months) in Sociology, a non-tenure-track position with the possibility of renewal term appointments. Successful candidates will be asked to teach remotely for the department's new Online BA Program beginning in Fall 2024. We seek an individual with experience teaching undergraduate Sociology courses in an online modality. The normal teaching load is three online courses per semester.

The individual hired will be responsible for developing and delivering relevant online courses, facilitating engaging learning, assessing student work, providing constructive feedback, holding regular virtual office hours, staying updated on industry trends, and participating in regularly scheduled online meetings with the Department Chair, Director of Undergraduate Studies, and Administrative Manager. The online courses that the individual hired may teach or develop involve topics such as, but not limited to, Introduction to Sociology, Statistics for Sociologists, Social Research Methods, and Sociological Theory. The type of online course delivery (e.g., asynchronous, synchronous, mixed synchronous/asynchronous) may alternate and will be at the discretion of the University.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master's Degree or doctoral candidate status (ABD) in Sociology or related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by 8/31/2024. Candidates who will not hold the degree by this date will not be considered.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role.

  • Applicants must have at least two years of teaching experience as the instructor of record.

  • Applicants must provide evidence of online teaching effectiveness. The applicant must provide a teaching statement, at least one syllabus, and one set of teaching evaluations for a course they taught.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Sociology or related field.
