Technical Specialist - Emission Services Group

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Job Overview and Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and improvement of RATA and Compliance test procedures and Ambient Monitoring procedures.

  • Providing technical support and training support to Emission Services Staff.

  • Taking a key leadership role, ensuring that processes and service levels are always of the highest quality.

  • Ensuring that management goals are met.

  • To provide excellent customer service both internal and external.

  • Working with sales to complete proposals and channel new potential revenue sources.

  • Technical review of all reports prior to submission to the client.

Primary responsibilities include the following (but are not limited to):

  • Assess current Bureau Veritas RATA/Compliance systems and field procedures and provide technical feedback on areas for improvement, including efficiency and cost savings.

  • Assess current Bureau Veritas ambient monitoring systems and field procedures and provide technical feedback on areas for improvement, including efficiency and cost savings.

  • Develop maintenance program and tracking system for RATA and ambient analyzers, implement program and monitor effectiveness. Work towards continual improvement in maintenance systems.

  • Develop field audit program for RATA test methods and Compliance test methods (AENV SSC methods 1-4).

  • Conduct field audits on RATA and Compliance testing to set schedule, to ensure continual assessment and improvement of testing procedures.

  • Provide excellent customer service by always presenting a professional attitude and representing Bureau Veritas in a positive way.

  • Working with sales to create detailed and accurate proposals for clients, while exploring new revenue streams.

  • Complying with all client and Bureau Veritas safety initiatives and rules.

  • Providing technical support and expertise to our clients, ensuring that tests performed are completed to client’s and

  • Bureau Veritas' satisfaction.

  • Supports and complies with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program.

  • Adheres to Bureau Veritas Code of Ethics Policy.

  • Participates in Emission Services lab and health and safety meetings.

  • Participates in Emission Services internal and external audits.

  • Participation in Conferences and Seminars related to Emissions testing.

  • Understand reference test methods thoroughly

  • Mentoring and training new and junior staff and supervising junior staff in the absence of their Supervisor.

  • Support on equipment maintenance, repair and calibration, supporting management initiatives.

  • Ensure that bays and repair lab are kept clean and organized at all times.

  • Keeps work area clean, neat and organized.

  • Develop a strong supportive relationship with the Management team.

  • Develop a strong supportive relationship with the Project/Team Lead and field technician teams.

  • Communicating with the Supervisor(s) to ensure the correct level of supplies is maintained on-site.

  • Review and ensure all QA/QC requirements are met to ensure compliance with internal standards and Air Monitoring Directive.

  • Maintaining a positive, cooperative work environment.

  • Suggesting and implementing production efficiencies.

  • Acting as an agent of positive change in supporting Bureau Veritas' new operating and cultural initiatives.

  • Supporting and championing initiatives forwarded by Supervisors and Manager.

Is there a mutual fit? You ideally have:

  • 2-year technical diploma or equivalent.

  • At least 5 years’ experience performing emission testing, with at least 3 years at a leadership level.

  • At least 5 years’ experience with RATA and Compliance test procedures.

  • At least 5 years’ experience with ambient air monitoring.

  • Excellent, current knowledge of stack testing methods and theories, including AENV, Environment Canada and US EPA reference methods.

  • Excellent, current knowledge of ambient air monitoring methods and regulations.

  • Excellent understanding of source testing equipment - mechanics and electrical.

  • Excellent understanding of continuous analyzers, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting.

  • Good understanding of industrial processes.

  • Willingness to travel and work hours in the field.

  • Knowledge of safe work procedures and requirement.

  • Skilled in problem solving, effective communication, mentoring, coaching, customer service and leadership.

  • Positive outlook with an energetic, motivated, analytical mindset.

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday

  • Willing to work overtime or be on call when necessary (including some weekends)

The salary range for this role is $35-$40.

Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location.
