Job Summary:

AIS is looking for a Lab Support Technologist to work in Albuquerque, NM. The selected candidate will support projects with DNA and gene synthesis, molecular cloning, DNA/RNA extraction/purification/sequencing, epigenetic profiling, genetic manipulation, cultivation, protein expression and purification from a wide range of bacteria, algae, plants, fungi, and mammalian cells. Supporting these operations will require experience developing distinct nucleic acid, protein, and infection assays. The candidate will gain valuable laboratory experience and demonstrate competency in a wide range of techniques for cellular manipulation and assay development.

Our team performs exploratory science and develops technology to address pressing national needs in energy security, homeland security, and national defense. Our work is focused on understanding and countering natural, traditional and engineered biological threats, as well as on developing biofuels and biomaterials. Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Laboratory management

  • Microorganism culturing techniques

  • Molecular cloning, transformation, transfection, genetic engineering

  • Nucleic acid isolation, characterization, sequencing, and assays

  • Protein expression, purification, and assays

  • Cellular phenotype characterization

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in biology/microbiology/molecular biology/related field; or 8 years of equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 2 or more years of experience in a biology/microbiology/molecular biology/related field lab

  • Experience with reagent/media preparations for cultivating bacteria/algae/plants/fungi/mammalian cells

  • Experience with molecular cloning, DNA/RNA extraction/purification/sequencing, transformation/transfection

  • Ability to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

  • Proximity to the Albuquerque, NM area

  • U.S. citizenship

  • Demonstrated familiarity with cultivating bacterial, algal, plant, fungal and mammalian cells

  • Demonstrated familiarity with genetic manipulation/epigenetic profiling from multiple microorganisms

  • Experience with DNA visualization software (ex. SnapGene, Benchling, etc)

  • Experience with developing protocols and mentoring junior lab members

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to add contributions to research publications

  • Ability to work on and keep a record of multiple tasks

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Demands:

  • If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sub-contractor you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

  • If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sub-contractor, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
