Job Description:

The Iowa State University Athletics Department is accepting applications for a Pilot, Captain to serve as both pilot in command (PIC) as well as second in command (SIC) in the Cessna Citation XLS. This position will ensure safe operation of aircraft in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, aircraft limitations and University operating procedures. Position is responsible for:

  • Check the overall condition of the aircraft before and after every flight

  • Make accurate aircraft performance calculations

  • Verify that the fuel supply is adequate and that weather conditions are acceptable

  • Handle ground support coordination

  • Prepare and submit flight plans to air traffic control

  • Communicate with air traffic control over the aircraft’s radio system

  • Ensure aircraft is clean and properly prepared for flights with all provisions on board

  • Operate and control aircraft along planned routes and during takeoffs and landings

  • Monitor engines, fuel consumption, and other aircraft systems during flight

  • Respond to changing conditions, such as weather events and emergencies

  • Navigate the aircraft by using cockpit instruments and visual references

  • Assist in maintaining physical facilities of hangar, upkeep of aircraft, and accurate records

  • Provide excellent customer service to passengers and work cooperatively with other pilots

  • Responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations of the University, Conference, and NCAA

  • Other related duties as assigned

The successful candidate will possess a high level piloting ability, strong customer service skills and be committed to remaining current with safety practices and procedures. Candidates are expected to be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse clientele.

This position requires the ability to work evening and weekends on short notice, overnight stays, and being on-call with many days of no flights.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.

Required:

Commercial Pilots License.

Airplane Multiengine land (AMEL) certification.

Multiengine Instrument Rating certification.

Second Class Medical certification.

Preferred:

Turbine Pilot in command time (TPIC) certification.

Degree in Aviation or related field

560XL Type rating.

Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certification.
