Job Summary

The Associate Director of First-Year Recruitment is responsible for building a domestic recruiting network to ensure a strong application pool for the freshman class. The Associate Director collaborates closely with the Associate Director for Diversity Recruitment & Enrollment and Associate Director of First-Year Admissions to recruit and enroll the freshman class.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as the primary contact for all recruitment initiatives for the freshman class.

  • Manages and supervises five direct reports who comprise the Recruitment Team, overseeing their evaluations, administrative tasks, and professional development.

  • Develops a travel management model focusing on the five major regions of the country (West, Southwest, Northeast, Southeast, and Midwest), supported by the Recruitment Team.

  • Uses data-driven decision-making to craft annual travel assignments and analyzes college-eligible demographics.

  • Builds and oversees a network of part-time recruiters for regions not covered by the full-time team.

  • Works with Manager of the Visitor Center to train and provide staff for university information sessions and tours.

  • Assists in developing and implementing recruiting strategies with measurable goals.

  • Ensures accurate dissemination of information through web, social media, and email campaigns.

  • Coordinates with the Associate Director of Events to schedule on and off-campus events for diverse prospects.

  • Reviews and evaluates admissions applications, including complex cases, to determine eligibility.

  • Represents the university at college fairs, high school presentations, and campus events. Maintains and cultivates professional relationships with high schools, counselors, students, and families.

  • Serves as a liaison to on-campus departments and off-campus organizations to maintain the quality of the applicant pool.

    Other Functions

  • Serves in the absence of the Director of First-Year Admissions on all recruitment matters.

  • Stays informed on developments at the university, in higher education and in professional admissions work.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in higher education, multicultural education or a related field.

  • Five (5) years of progressive experience in undergraduate student recruitment or diversity/recruitment-related positions.

  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience.

  • Experience mentoring new admissions professionals.

  • Sensitivity to multicultural and socioeconomic issues.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively.

  • Sound judgment and ability to prioritize and make independent decisions.

  • Understanding of the undergraduate experience at a major research university.

  • Willingness and ability to travel and work weekends and evenings as needed.

  • Proficiency in data and technology use, including social media.

  • Valid driver's license and proof of insurability.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education or related field.

  • Proficiency in Slate or similar CRM.

  • Bilingual proficiency.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Typical office environment with travel and driving required.

Additional Details

  • Functions with minimal supervision in performing job duties and responsibilities.

  • Works with others to align plans and objectives with university and admissions goals.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:30 am–5:00 pm, with some weekends and nights are required.

This position has the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule , which is defined by the University as an arrangement where an employee’s work is regularly performed at a location other than the campus workspace for a portion of the week. As this position falls within the Professional Staff Union, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the Professional Staff Union collective bargaining agreement.

Salary Information

Salary Level 28.
