TheSchool of Kinesiology (https://www.kines.umich.edu/) at the University of Michigan is pleased to announce a tenure track Assistant Professor position in Kinesiology (i.e., Applied Exercise Science, Athletic Training, and/or Movement Science) with research interests that align with biomedical and/or health science. This position is part of theMichigan Program for Advancing Cultural Transformation (https://research.umich.edu/m-pact/) (M-PACT) and federally sponsored by theNational Institutes of Health Faculty Institutional Recruitment for Sustainable Transformation (FIRST) Program (https://commonfund.nih.gov/FIRST) and the University of Michigan. M-PACT aims to enhance inclusion and equity across the biomedical and health sciences research community by hiring tenure-track faculty with a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion. Thus, we are seeking a faculty member who aligns with this commitment.
The School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan is thetop Kinesiology program in the United States (https://www.kines.umich.edu/news-events/news/michigan-kinesiology-doctoral-programs-ranked-no-1-country) , according to a recent review by the National Academy of Kinesiology. In addition to the many exciting opportunities for collaboration within the School of Kinesiology and the University of Michigan, faculty members will have multiple opportunities to receive ongoing support both in the school and the university as a whole. The School of Kinesiology is one of 19 independent academic units and one of seven health science schools and colleges within the University of Michigan. Dean Lori Ploutz-Synder leads the school, with 35+ tenure-line faculty, approximately 1,200 undergraduate students, and 150 graduate students. In winter 2021, the School of Kinesiology moved into a newly renovated, state-of-the-art academic and research building (School of Kinesiology Building (https://www.kines.umich.edu/about/kinesiology-building) ) located in the heart of the University of Michigan's main campus.
We invite applications and nominations for a faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor (i.e., only applicants who have not previously held a tenure-track faculty position will be considered). Candidates will be expected to maintain a robust, ongoing research program in biomedical and/or health science research within the discipline of Kinesiology, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Kinesiology, and have research expertise appropriate for effectively mentoring trainees at the undergraduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral levels in Kinesiology. Successful candidates will be expected to maintain extramural funding for an active research program at the University of Michigan.
Required Qualifications*
A terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Kinesiology or a related field from an accredited institution is required. Preference will be given to those with expertise in areas that augment and expand current programs and research activities within the School of Kinesiology. To be considered, this must be the applicant's first tenure-track faculty position. Assistant Professor candidates should demonstrate academic excellence and independence by:
demonstrating a strong research agenda that addresses Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) in the area of biomedical and health science research within the discipline of Kinesiology;
publishing high-quality, peer-reviewed research in Kinesiology or Kinesiology-related areas that include, or ideally focus on, populations typically underserved in research or aligns with DEIA research;
having independent research funding or outstanding potential for future funding in interdisciplinary work that advances the diversity of thought in Kinesiology;
demonstrating a track record of promoting DEIA within their field of study through their research, teaching/mentoring, and/or service activities as well as a commitment to continue to promote DEIA in the future through these and/or other activities;
teaching courses and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in their area of expertise;
having proven success with contributing to a positive workplace culture, and the ability to consistently demonstrate our school'score values (https://www.kines.umich.edu/about/mission-values-leadership) ; and
