Summary
The Section of Pediatric Surgery is one of seven sections within the Department of Surgery at the University of Michigan Medical School. The Section of Pediatric Surgery is dedicated to setting the standard for teamwork, compassion, education, and innovation as we achieve outstanding outcomes for patients, invent novel life-saving treatments, and create a legacy of excellence in the field through advanced medical training.Were proud of the well-rounded enterprise we've built performing a high volume of operations annually in our fast-growing specialty practice; advancing pediatric surgery knowledge and practice through NIH-funded research; and offering collegial and unique fellowship training experiences. Our Section has 16 instructional, clinical, and research track faculty (including adjunct and emeritus), an active clinical operation with 2,300+ operative cases and 4,800+ outpatient visits at C.S. Mott Childrens Hospital, a strong network of practice with 3 other regional partners, and over $700K in annual sponsored research funding. We're motivated by providing the very best care to our patients, training the next generation of surgeons through our ACGME & non-ACGME Fellowship programs, and overall improving the health of children everywhere as we help create the future of pediatric surgery.
The Clinical Operations Project Manager plays a vital role that will own key responsibilities needed to facilitate the Sections functionality and continued growth. The ideal candidate will be highly organized and be able to exercise initiative, judgment, and discretion. The candidate must be able to multi-task and operate in a fast-paced environment while effectively prioritizing work. The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as computer proficiency on a Microsoft platform. This position requires a high degree of flexibility with the ability to work proactively, as part of a team, with initiative and creativity. This position requires the experience, judgment, and competence to make decisions free from immediate direction. The individual needs to be highly dependable and maintain our core values to contribute to our excellent work culture. The Clinical Operations Project Manager reports to the Section Administrator.
Responsibilities*
Oversee and manage clinical operations for Pediatric Surgery across various segment (clinic, OR, networks), including leading growth and improvements.
Create and implement work-flow improvements; develop and execute policies and procedures; lead efforts to improve operational efficiency.
Lead all clinical specialty program growth and development, for new and existing programs, in partnership with faculty.
Drive forward analytical support for clinical activities by preparing reports and recommendations.
Partner with Section, ACU, OR, and other leadership and stakeholders as necessary to ensure all clinical metrics are being met.
Lead template redesign and implementation efforts to maintain Sections expectations and ACUs operational needs.
Ensure adequate space, staffing, and other resources needed to execute patient care needs.
Participate in scheduled meetings with leadership identifying challenges and/or barriers, as well as opportunities, as they related to clinical operations and/or new initiatives; proposes viable options to address issues or concerns.
Perform other duties as assigned to support goals and objectives of the Section.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelors Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
4 or more years of progressively responsible professional experience.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with and build professional relationships with all individuals at all levels; appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and take initiative and within a team with minimal supervision.
Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively manage numerous projects, simultaneously and in various stages of development, with a high attention to detail.
Must have strong integrity, be highly proactive, have a high degree of problem-solving skills, be highly reliable, retain a sense of ownership and accountability for workload, be flexible and resilient, provide excellent customer service, and possess expert follow-up skills.
Proficient computer skills are essential, including demonstrated proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, survey tools such as Qualtrics and Google Forms, etc.
Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
Desired Qualifications*
Prior experience with Michigan Medicines Pediatric Surgery teams.
APP experience in a surgical specialty and/or pediatric specialty preferred.
Experience with EMR.
Demonstrated clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to lead clinical operations work.
Prior management, supervisory, or team leader experience.
Knowledge of university policies and procedures as well as university systems.
Experience in academic setting managing and prioritizing multiple different projects.
Previous experience working with faculty.
