Job Summary

In 2023 the President's Office established the Ethics, Integrity and Compliance Office (EICO). This newly formed office is currently seeking an experienced professional to support the work of the ethics, integrity and compliance officer. The EICO will help units coordinate ethics, integrity and compliance activities and offer guidance on compliance questions across the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses, as well as Michigan Medicine. We are seeking an experienced professional to design, develop, implement and promote awareness of the organization's business ethics policies. Important skills for this role include knowledge of best practices in ethics, integrity and compliance, knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing ethics and compliance in institutions of higher education, experience analyzing complex and often conflicting information, ability to synthesize and present clear and concise findings and recommendations, persuade and influence decision-makers. Candidates should also possess strong analytical, research, and writing skills, and be a meticulous, analytical and methodical thinker. Candidates should also possess the ability to work collaboratively with subject matter experts in other units, be adaptable and creative as policy issues, and accountability measures are constantly changing.

You will report directly to and support the university's ethics, integrity and compliance officer, and will have independent responsibility for a significant volume and variety of high-level administrative functions and handle matters of a confidential and sensitive nature.

You will regularly interact with senior leaders and at times the president. Focused on providing excellent assistance to the EICO, the position's demands are variable in nature, type, and volume. The job responsibilities are shaped by the demands of the EICO activities which vary over time. This position will be primarily on-site in Ann Arbor with the opportunity for a hybrid schedule in accordance with operational needs. Work on evenings and weekends may occasionally be needed to accommodate the office schedule and events.

The salary range for this position is $120,000-$140,000. A higher salary may be possible for well-qualified applicants.

Responsibilities*

  • Create and maintain the University policy library in collaboration with stakeholders

  • Support the ethics, integrity and compliance officer by leading the review of current policies and making policy recommendations to address federal or state statutory and regulatory requirements or to create efficiencies or effectiveness of the EIC program

  • Conduct research and analysis on policy issues and trends

  • Develop and present policy options and recommendations based on evidence and best practices

  • Prepare and review policy documents, such as briefings, reports, submissions, or speeches

  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of policy initiatives to identify areas of opportunity

  • Creates roll-out plans and campaigns after policies are created, or amended collaboratively with stakeholders

  • Uses best practices for maintaining accountability in the organization

  • Creates campaigns for accountability in the organization collaboratively with stakeholders

  • Review outcomes of summary of hotline reports and other information for accountability of units to the university's core values

  • Builds relationships with various stakeholders to collaboratively work on compliance matrix and to maintain the policy library

  • Manages the compliance matrix

  • Coordinates and creates the regular summary of compliance and accountability reports

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as political science, economics, legal studies, or social sciences, preferred or an equivalent combination of skills and experience

  • Seven years of experience in policy development, analysis, or advocacy preferably in higher education or related field

  • Professionalism, strong work ethic, demonstrated sense of responsibility, discretion and reliability

  • Experience with ethics, integrity or compliance policy

  • Experience and ability to succeed in a highly decentralized organization

Desired Qualifications*

  • Working knowledge of U-M organizational policies, rules and regulations

  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience or relevant leadership experience

  • Minimum of two years of experience in higher education
