Summary

The D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion is a 12-story hospital that will house 264 private rooms capable of converting to intensive care; a state-of-the-art neurosciences center; and high-level, specialty care services for cardiovascular and thoracic patients, along with advanced imaging. The 690,000-square-foot hospital which also features 20 surgical and three interventional radiology suites is being constructed adjacent to the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, with plans for bridge and tunnel connections to existing inpatient care facilities. The anticipated opening of the new D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion is fall 2025.

The nursing supervisor will provide professional nursing leadership and administrative direction for nursing practice within the Kahn Pavilion Preop and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). Participate as an active member of the leadership team focusing on daily staffing, scheduling as well as operational needs. Additionally, the nursing supervisor will play an active role in recruitment efforts, hiring, continuous quality improvement, safety, customer service, education, and research.

Responsibilities*

Personnel Management

  • Develop work schedules and arrange coverage as needed for nursing and ancillary staff according to patient flow.

  • Select, hire, and plan for staffing, consistent with service needs and budget.

  • Supervise, mentor, counsel and evaluate staff to enable achievement of the unit and institutional objectives, particularly as it relates to high quality patient care.

  • Participate in development, implementation, and revision of individual performance plans.

  • Develop and foster teamwork and building trusting relationships.

Clinical Practice

  • Serve as a role model and support a nursing practice environment in which empowerment, responsibility, autonomy, accountability, collaboration, and peer review are exercised.

  • Plan, coordinate, and evaluate quality assurance activities.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary and unit problem-solving regarding patient care.

Clinical Operations

  • Participate in the development and implementation of unit's goals, objectives, and standards of nursing care.

  • Identify and plan for staffing consistent with the needs of the patient population and budgetary requirements.

  • Collaborate with OR leaders in planning and problem-solving regarding patient triage, flow, priorities of patient services and urgent and emergent care.

  • Interpret and implement the Hospital and University policies and procedures and the standard of regulatory agencies.

  • Collaborate with Education Coordinators to implement competency-based evaluation.

Professional Development

  • Participate in professional organizations.

  • Participate in activities to promote own continued learning and professional growth.

  • Develop performance plan consistent with goals of UMHHC. Evaluate own performance periodically with department manager.

  • Establishment of LinkedIn professional profile.

Required Qualifications*

Required Educational Requirements:

Applicant must meet one of the following:

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing OR

  • Associates degree or Diploma in Nursing and a Master's degree in Nursing.

  • Minimum five (5) years RN experience.

  • Minimum two (2) years of recent (within the last 5 years) RN experience in PACU, OR, ED, or ICU.

  • Nurse Leadership certification or completion of a nurse leadership certification within two (2) years of accepting this position. Certification is expected to be maintained while in this leadership role. Examples include Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML) or, Nurse Executive (NE-BC). The nursing leadership certification must be recognized by the Magnet Recognition Program and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC.), for the list visithere (https://www.nursingworld.org/organizational-programs/magnet/program-tools/accepted-certifications/) .

Desired Qualifications*

  • Masters of Science in Nursing.

  • Supervisory experience

  • CAPA/CPAN certifications

  • Current BLS/ACLS

  • Excellent customer service, communication, team building, and problem-solving skills.

  • Advanced computer skills desired, including proficiency in Sharepoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and educational research systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines.

  • Creativity and experience with new program development.
