Description:

POSITION PORPOSE

  • The Trauma Registry Coordinator is responsible for the management of all components of the THAA Trauma Registry and trauma informatics. They must be comfortable with both interpreting the clinical care provided to trauma patients and be comfortable with advanced computing and database administration.

  • This position is a Full-Time, benefited position scheduled 40 hours per week.

  • For candidates with 2 or more years of trauma registry experience in an ACS level 1 or 2 center (or equivalent), this will be a fully remote position.

  • For candidates that lack this experience, the role will be in-house (Ann Arbor, MI) until it has been determined that they have the skills to complete the required work independently in a remote setting.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Maintains the THAA Trauma Registry database:

  • Identifies all THAA trauma admissions, transfers, and deaths, using clinical identifiers and strict inclusion/exclusion criteria defined by the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

  • Retrieves trauma data through:

  • Data download from trauma data sources, including other hospital and system-wide databases and patient logs.

  • Direct abstraction of clinical information based on guidelines from the ACS, including the identification of all injuries, procedures, complications, and outcomes.

  • Maintains a system for data cleaning to ensure the reliability, accuracy, and completeness of the database.

  • Networks with the ACS, the National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB), internal and external application administrators, and statewide trauma agencies and organizations.

  • Collaborates with Trinity Information System (TIS) to serve as a liaison to trauma software vendors in resolution of problems.

  • Reviews trauma patients’ clinical records across the continuum of care, including EMS reports, police reports (if available), the Emergency Department, Surgery, and inpatient records, and:

  • Applies appropriate Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS-2008) scores.

  • Validates ICD-10 diagnostic codes, operative codes, and E-codes.

  • Verifies the trauma charging process to ensure that charges are captured accurately for trauma patients.

  • Analyzes trauma data to provide both routine and ad hoc reports of trauma statistics as requested.

  • Works closely with Trauma Program Manager to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects.

  • Reviews ED logs and performs case finding for patients that should be added to the trauma registry.

  • Oversees the conversion, upload, and transfer of trauma registry data to other designated database systems, including local, state, and national systems.

  • Prepares reports in preparation for the ACS Trauma Center Re-Verification or Verification survey, and participates in the survey, as requested.

MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Michigan Nursing License

  • Two years or more of nursing experience in surgical care, critical care, and/or an emergency department, with increasing responsibility and interest in trauma care.

  • Computer and Internet skills and experience required, including familiarity and comfort with the Windows and MS Office environment and a wide variety of software applications which may include, e.g., Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint. Previous experience with a centralized patient information system.

  • Trauma registry and/or performance improvement experience preferred.
