Summary

The Division of Pain Medicine at the Back and Pain Center at Burlington Building is seeking a pain psychologist for a faculty appointment within the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Michigan Medical School. The range of hours is approximately 32-40 hours per week. Office business hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, however scheduling may be flexible and will be discussed with the hiring manager and the successful candidate.

Responsibilities*

Key clinical responsibilities include:

  • Provide direct patient care in a clinic setting as a clinical psychologist in the Back and Pain Center, specializing in the area of behavioral health and pain management. Patient visits will be virtual and in person.

  • Provide clinical and didactic instruction for house officers and fellows.

Duties include:

  • Applications of cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy for chronic pain patients.

  • Identification of psychological amplification of pain processes and implementation of psychoeducational and psychotherapeutic modalities as indicated. Part of the time will be spent working as part of a multidisciplinary team (pain specialist physical therapy, pain psychologist) to address and treat psychological factors of high-impact chronic pain.

  • Pre-procedural psychological screening for implantable therapies (spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulators), participate in the pain transitional program, and provide psychological individual and group therapy.

Required Qualifications*

Applicants should possess a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) from an APA/CPA-accredited program and internship, postdoctoral training in health psychology and be licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist in the state of Michigan. Successful applicants will have clinical experience working with adults and families to treat psychological factors of high-impact chronic pain. Experience in program development, implementation, and clinical research is also desired. This position is largely clinical in nature.

Requisite experience includes fellowship in health psychology or equivalent experience with medical patients in a hospital setting.

Additional Information

The range of hours is approximately 32-40 hours per week. Office business hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, however scheduling may be flexible and will be discussed with the hiring manager and the successful candidate. Salary will be commensurate based on years of experience. Salary range for entry level position with zero years of experience is $115,000 - $120,000/annually plus benefits.
