Arlington School Special Education Paraprofessional in ARLINGTON, South Dakota
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two years post high school education
- Pass all employment screenings
- Possess the ability and desire to work with children in need of special education who present challenging behaviors
- Expertise working with children with special needs and behavior challenges preferred
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
PRIMARY FUNCTION: To support implementation of students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs); assist in developing and implementing a behavior plan as describe d in the IEP; assist in the instructional program in an educational setting.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires hearing, hand-eye coordination; ability to carry 30-40 pounds; frequent lifting, sitting, stooping, standing, and bending; frequent keyboarding and repetitive motion with wrists, hands and fingers; occasional physical management of students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participates in the implementation and revisionof student behavior programs and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Collect and maintain data on behavior and achievement goals.
- Assist in preparation and adaptation of instructional materials and behavior plans, administer tests, correct papers, record grades.
- Support students in alternative and classroom settings to control behavior.
- Assist in the implementation of reinforcement according to the IEP and behavior intervention plans.
- Implementing de-escalation strategies.
- Model and teach specialized strategies and techniques (social stories, peer facilitation, peer training, etc).
- Help establish and maintain home-school communication, including progress reports and other reports determined by the case manager.
- Provide individual or small group instruction and support to students.
- Participates in behavior management training as requested by the District.
- Supervise students throughout the building, school grounds, and special activity trips.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time hourly, rate DOE, hours to be determined, and benefits provided. Position is a 9-month contract.
EVALUATION PROCEDURE: This position will be evaluated by the Director of Special Education.
