Traffic Planning & Design Traffic Design Engineer in Asheville, North Carolina

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams on tasks such as work zone traffic, intersection design, traffic signal design, roadway signing and pavement marking plans, DOT access permitting, control plans and traffic signal operations analysis.

  • Obtaining, analyzing, and interpreting demographic and other regional transportation planning data.

  • Assisting in the preparation or modification of specifications, plans, construction schedules, permits, and designs for projects.

  • Reviewing construction site to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documents.

  • Serving as on-site project representative.

  • May assist the team with traffic studies, corridor planning, feasibility studies, and safety audits.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (required)

  • Professional Engineering License (PE) in NC or able to obtain within 2 years (not required, but preferred)

  • Knowledge of CADD Software (AutoCAD/Civil3D experience preferred)

  • Knowledge or familiarity with NCSDOT/NCDPW design standards, including traffic signal design, signing and striping, ADA compliance, pavement design, work zone traffic control, and/or access permitting.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong work ethic and ability to work on multiple projects and ability to meet multiple deadlines.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

  • Valid Driver’s License
