Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind one of the World’s largest Cloud Infrastructures, responsible for powering all Microsoft online Products and Services as well as powering Microsoft’s “Cloud First” mission. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide, and we are looking for a Datacenter Investigations Director to help achieve that mission.

The Data Center Investigations program, within the Threat and Incident Management Group, falls under Microsoft’s Data Center Physical Security organization in CO+I. This program is dedicated to providing investigative support for our business partners within the CO+I Organization by conducting incident investigations related to safety, security, environmental, business, or compliance incidents to determine the facts, level of risk, and provide recommendations for remediation and preventative actions. The team also supports other investigative groups at Microsoft by providing evidence support and data center subject matter expertise for investigations within the data center space.

This position falls under the Senior Director- Threat and Incident Management and will be responsible for Directing the Data Center Physical Security Investigations Program including relationship building, optimizing case management, driving standardization, driving data driven decision making, and setting and managing programmatic goals. This person will also be responsible for managing the Investigations Program Manager and overseeing a vendor supported investigations team who are responsible for intake and triage of physical security incident investigations, providing investigative support to partner teams (EHS, Legal, HR, Global Security Investigations), and providing remediation recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of Investigations professionals to drive strategic initiatives related to physical security investigations in Data Centers or other related critical infrastructure environments.

  • Develop and implement programmatic standards, processes, and procedures for the Investigations Program, including the management of team SharePoint and case management tooling, to drive efficiencies and effectiveness.

  • Provide strategic direction for the Investigations Program, including the development of analytical data on case metrics, incident trends, and programmatic service level agreements (SLAs) and report out metrics to executive leadership through regularly occurring business reviews.

  • Collaborate with physical security operations and corporate security teams to identify emerging physical security threats and assess associated cyber-physical security risks.

  • Conduct thorough and professional investigations into security incidents by leveraging various security data systems, including CCTV footage, badge access records, and alarm records, and work collaboratively with other teams to implement preventative measures.

  • Prioritize investigations and allocate resources based on potential risks and available resources and assign investigative tasks to the Investigations team.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Datacenter investigations to support partner investigations teams in environmental health and safety, legal, compliance, human resources, and corporate security.

  • Conduct data quality analysis and enforce data privacy, protection, and retention policies, working collaboratively with cyber security teams to ensure a comprehensive security approach.

  • Oversee a vendor-supported investigator workforce, monitor performance against contractual agreements, and oversee training and development programs for the team.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years experience in Security Program or Program Management or related field within Critical Infrastructure environments (Datacenters, Power, Oil and Gas).

  • 3+ years of experience managing a team.

  • Understanding and experience in video management and access control systems (Lenel and Milestone), case management software, and Microsoft Office products.

  • Thorough knowledge of the development of Programmatic Governance Documentation (Physical Security Standard Operating Procedures, processes, and baselines or related).

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: 

  • This position requires verification of U.S. citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Law, Criminal Justice, Risk Management, Homeland Securityor a related field required.

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in business, risk management, or security leadership (preferred).

  • Proven track record of influencing for impact and completing initiatives with cross-functional teams and vendor workforce.

  • Awareness of privacy law, data protection standards, and attorney client privileged investigations.

  • Professional and technical writing skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex information to executive leadership.

Security IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 - $266,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 - $292,200 per year.
