JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Functions as a skilled individual contributor or lead researcher on one or more research projects, serving as an expert in specialized area(s).

  • Designs, develops and conducts large and/or complex research experiments.

  • Reviews progress of research and evaluates results.

  • Shares expertise in equipment operation and laboratory techniques.

  • Refines/adapts methodologies to fit specific experiment requirements.

  • Collaborates in the development of new techniques.

  • Co-authors publications and may co-present findings with Principal Investigator at meetings/conferences.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

  • Perform studies relevant to new treatments for sickle cell anemia (SCD). This will include:

1) screening smaller molecules for anti-sickling activity using an innovative assay system developed by our laboratory.

2) testing oxygen dissociation, cytotoxicity, and analytic studies of candidate molecules for treatment of SCD.

3) performing ekta deformability and other highly cutting edge methodologies for evaluating new SCD drugs.

4) assist with treatment of SCD mice using compounds identified through this project.

5) participate in manuscript and grant writing, data analysis and presentation, work with FDA and other groups to advance the overall SCD research program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in a scientific field.

  • Seven years of professional research experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience of studies with SCD.

  • Excellent laboratory skill set.

  • Technical expertise with regard to drug discovery and advancement.

  • MS or PhD with 3-5 years of post-graduate laboratory benchwork experience.

  • Commitment to helping people with SCD.

  • Being flexible.

  • Open to suggestions.

  • Easy to work with.

  • High-level dedication to project.

  • Desire to help people with serious illnesses through science.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
