Aludyne (Shiloh) Machine Operator in Auburn, Indiana

Summary: In addition to the accountabilities listed below, all associates are expected to represent the current Leadership Standards of SHILOH.

This position is responsible for the machining and finishing of aluminum die castings to Shiloh's quality standards by following established procedures and work instructions and for safely operating high tech machining and finishing equipment. The incumbent must monitor process control and part quality through SPC techniques. This position is responsible for minor machine and equipment maintenance, troubleshooting the complete machining and finishing process.

Additional responsibilities include following established policies, procedures and work instructions. If something is unclear, ask questions. Monitoring complete machining process to maintain set parameters defined by Dimensional Control Plan. Use appropriate procedure to request process changes. Performing and accurately recording results of quality checks as defined by Dimensional Control Plan. Accurately completing route tags and employee production sheets following work instructions. Combining minor repairs, determining root cause and completing appropriate corrective action to reduce downtime and scrap. Assisting support groups with repairs and routine maintenance to equipment. Working as a team with coworkers to ensure machines are covered during lunch breaks and quality checks. Using time and equipment appropriately to increase effectiveness, efficiency and utilization. And perform other duties as assigned by Machining Group Leader.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities This position reports to the Machining Supervisor.

The incumbent must support the die cast, machining and other services' efforts to keep a continuous flow of high quality castings through the plant and to the customer by accurately providing and reporting the significant aspects of the visual, dimensional, and process information available.

The incumbent must promote a predictive, not reactive, maintenance philosophy by taking a proactive approach to preventative maintenance and quality.

This position, as well as others in the facility, must promote plant wide safety and housekeeping, and follow established guidelines for visual management.

Education and/or Experience GED or high school diploma re

Skills and Abilities Support the operational targets, utilize a QOS compliant management review process to develop, measure, improve, and achieve key measurable performance objectives including, but not limited to, the following:

  • PM completion 100% on time
  • Containment removed in less than 24 hours.
  • Housekeeping to exceed plant standards.
  • Participate in Safety Committee meetings.
  • Environmental compliance 100%.

Additional Competencies Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Computer literate. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; be able to handle and / or feel objects, tools, and / or controls; and to communi ate. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; kneel, squat, or crawl. The employee must frequently bend; and lift and / or move up to 10 pounds, but in certain situations may be required to lift and / or move up to 50 pounds safely. Vision abilities required by this job are the same as required for a driver's license in the state in which the person lives, and will be demonstrated by maintaining that license.

Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The incumbent is required to wear the protective clothing and equipment designated in work instructions and procedures.
