The Department of the Secretary of State is seeking an Accounting Supervisor to work in a fast-paced office, responsible for processing the revenue the Bureau of Motor Vehicles receives from multiple sources. This position supervises a staff of 4-5 people, and oversees various aspects of accounting reports, processes and procedures within the unit.

This position requires exercising independent judgement, critical thinking, attention to detail, initiative, and discretion. This position reports to the Managing Staff Accountant, andworks on-site, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities include:

  • Various staff management tasks, such as hiring and training, evaluating performance and other assignments related to complying with HR laws, policies, and practices.

  • Interacting with Bureau of Motor Vehicle staff, Municipal Coordinators and Auditors to ensure that revenue gets posted correctly and timely.

  • Developing and recommending procedures to improve overall operations.

  • Interpreting rules, regulations and polices and applying them to program operations.

  • Examining documents for compliance with applicable regulations.

  • Preparing and updating reports on financial transactions and unit activities.

  • Reviewing electronic information systems data to ensure accurate and detailed analysis in reporting systems.

  • Reviewing and revising payroll and/or personnel transactions.

  • Assessing office needs and recommends improvements for workspace, equipment, ergonomics, and workplace safety.

  • Confidently employ advanced management methods and work effectively with people with diverse perspectives and experiences.

  • Positively guide staff, professional development, team morale and the overall health of the unit.

  • Clearly communicate with all staff levels both orally and written, including but not limited to delivering formal presentations, facilitating meetings, and producing reports and correspondence.

  • Analyze data and use it to inform strategic approaches to daily and long-term operations.

  • Apply critical thinking skills when dealing with staff or tasks to make independent decisions or recommendations to a resolution.

  • Create, implement and revise quality control and assurance standards.

  • Use Microsoft Suite products and other accounting software programs at advanced levels, including using spreadsheets for analysis and reporting.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Six (6) years of clerical experience to include two (2) years in supervisory role or performing highly independent clerical work.

    Preference will be given to applicants with a combination of college course credits and professional experience in accounting, and experience supervising accounting or clerical staff.

Salary: $19.56-$26.18(Includes 1% stipend)
