Job Description:

This position serves two roles 1) the Director of the Public and Community Services Division and 2) the Assistant Bureau Director.

This position, working closely the Director of Freight and Business Logistics, The Bureau Director, many stakeholders and the front office, directs activities focused on:

• Development of key overarching Planning Documents,

• Public Outreach for planning activities

• General outreach to Communities,

• Assessment of Community needs and integration of them into MaineDOT programs,

• Community training and technical assistance,

• Site specific planning studies under the Village and Planning Partnership Initiatives.

• Transit planning and transit operations

• MPO and complex project scoping

This position also serves as the Assistant Bureau Director, acting in the Director's absence. Specifically, this position has been assigned the following tasks:

  1. Manage the Division's staffing, workloads, and performance.

    1. Keep the Bureau Director and Front Office updated on internal and external developments potentially affecting our work.

    2. Coordinate and update long-range transportation planning documents for the department.

    3. Oversee the development of Planning and Village Partnership Initiative studies.

    4. Continue to promote active outreach and collaboration with Maine's Municipalities, Counties, Native American Tribes and other key stakeholders through the Regional Planners and the Maine local Roads Center. Look for and implement synergies between the Local Road Center and the Regional Planners.

  2. Continue to assess the needs of Maine Communities through the Local Roads Center and Regional Planners. Look for opportunities to alter MaineDOT programs to meet those needs.

    1. Work to reestablish, expand and modernize the Working with MaineDOT, a guide for municipal officials.

    2. Support RIO in the development of applications for special federal funding on an as needed basis.

To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:

A ten (10) year combination of education, training and/or experience in transportation planning or related field to include at least two (2) years of managerial experience.
