Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects, including but not limited to aseptic technique, bacterial and mammalian cell culture, sample prep for NGS or FACS, PCR and agarose gel results verification, qPCR, miniPreps and DNA quantitation.

  • Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research.

  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting and communicating results.

  • Perform research regarding the measurement of nicotine metabolites and other small molecules using liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS). Complete downstream processing of samples including, but not limited to plasma metabolite extraction, cellular DNA extraction, and genetic sequencing preparation. Maintain records and large databases for lab projects.

  • Use deep mutational scanning methods to support lab genetic and proteomic engineering experiments and functional assay development.

Entry Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.

  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.

  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

  • One (1) year professional level research experience.

Senior Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.

  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

  • Two (2) years professional level research experience.

Principal Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.

  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

  • Three (3) years professional level research experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.

  • One (1) to four (4) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.

  • Sample prep experience specifically for LC-MS, NGS, FACS.

  • Experience in the preparation of written documents, including procedures, presentations, proposals, and scientific papers.

  • Some experience in pharmacogenomics or in a genetic engineering wet laboratory setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of basic genomic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.

  • Expert ability to analyze and solve complex problems.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated genomics wet lab technician to join the Claw Indigenous Genomics and Ethics Laboratory at the Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine within the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Wet Lab Manager and Dr. Katrina Claw as needed. This includes various benchwork methods including, but not limited to, complex biochemical assays, bacterial/mammalian cell culturing, basic genetic engineering, media prep, general lab maintenance, and other methods according to established scientific protocols. A full-time position is available to assist with the ongoing wet lab projects researching the role of the pharmacogenetic variation in small populations related to health, disease prevalence, and personalized medicine. Dr. Claw will personally provide training in ethical research and community-based participatory research approaches. Opportunities to work with Indigenous communities may be available.
