TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION Chief Communications Officer (Hybrid) in Austin, Texas

Who You Are: You are a passionate leader with a strong understanding of brand management and messaging, excellent communications skills, and the ability to effectively direct collaborative creative teams. You know how to cultivate a team and make thoughtful decisions that support increased engagement between Texans and the states workforce system.

The position will provide strategic oversight and direction to the Office of Communications and Campaigns, working closely with TWCs Commissioners, Executive Director, executive leadership, and other teams across the agency to ensure the right message is shared with the right audience at the right time.

What You Will Do: As the Chief Communications Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of communication strategies and campaigns that effectively promote our brand and engage our target audiences. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent messaging and drive the success of our outreach and communication initiatives. You should be able to set priorities, meet deadlines and be extraordinarily flexible as a day changes. You should know the growth of your team is a vital part of leadership. Performs highly advanced (senior-level) managerial work providing direction and guidance in strategic operations and planning. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

With almost 5,000 employees focused on the workforce needs of Texas, TWC has plenty of content to create and share. Some stories will be in print. Some stories will be in video. Other stories will be online, on social media, or in talking points. Creativity, collaboration, and an eye for detail are musts.

You will oversee the TWC Communications and the Campaigns and Creative Content Departments, guiding the work of professional storytellers, public relationship experts, multimedia artists, graphic designers, and information facilitators. These teams deliver timely, accurate, accessible, and convenient information about the Texas Workforce Commissions programs and services to the public, media, and internal customers.

You Qualify With: -Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university plus six years of full-time experience in the oversight and direction of an agency program; or in strategic planning and policy development and implementation, three years of which must have been in an administrative management or supervisory capacity. -One year of full-time qualifying experience may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of education.

You are a Great Fit With: -Six years of full-time experience in the oversight of an agency program or in strategic planning development and implementation -Experience leading both traditional media and marketing teams -A keen eye for details while still being able to understand the bigger picture -Ability to communicate complex policy concepts in easily understood terms
