Go to CAPPS Recruit to Sign In https://capps.taleo.net/careersection/ex/jobsearch.ftl?lang=en GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Performs moderately complex (journey-level) skilled work to operate bindery equipment to produce high quantity and quality of forms, reports, manuals and other documents as requested by various work units. Some work may contain sensitive or classified law enforcement business. Work is performed under moderate supervision when fully trained with limited latitude for independent judgement. The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position. ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Sets up and operate bindery equipment to finish the required number, size and style of printed documents requested by the business unit. Some operations include cutting, folding and binding. 2. Adjusts bindery equipment to maintain all finishing specifications and monitors the accuracy of the final product. 3. Calculates the quantity of materials necessary for completion of a specified order. 4. Stacks and initiates delivery of completed production run to appropriate location for further processing or delivery to requester. 5. Cleans, maintains, lubricates and makes minor repairs to assigned equipment to assure it continues to operate efficiently. Notifies coordinator when parts of major repairs are required. 6. Maintain accurate daily records of jobs completed, materials used, machine down-time and related data. Indicates on work orders necessary steps for order finishing. 7. Assists in moving and stacking pallets for temporary storage and moves printed material to work area for periodic loading into assigned equipment. 8. May assist in other work areas as workload dictates. 9. May assist with special shop related projects such as area cleaning or equipment reconfiguration. 10. Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies. 11. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS: Education Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent. Experience Minimum of one (1) year of verifiable work experience as a Bindery Technician or training as a Printing Service Technician. Substitution Note: Additional work experience of the type described or other related education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis. Licensure and/or Certification Must possess a valid driver license from state of residence. Regulatory knowledge Working knowledge of bindery equipment and of safe and efficient procedures for operating such equipment. Skilled in setting up, loading and adjusting binding equipment. Skilled in balancing the various measuring (height, width, thickness) factors that contribute to product quality. Interpersonal Skills Must demonstrate a ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with co-workers and other department employees. Organizational and Prioritization Skills Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment. Must be able to calculate quantities of materials necessary to complete production runs. Ability to plan, prioritize and schedule production sequences of assigned job orders to attain optimum daily productivity at applicable quality levels. Ability to work effectively with considerable pressures of time in an open work area subject to occasional interruptions and distractions and with moderate to high levels of noise. Communication Skills Ability to understand and effectively apply oral and written instructions and procedures of moderate complexity. Technology (computers/hardware/software/operating systems) Must possess appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Confidentiality and Protected Information Must demonstrate an ability to maintain security of materials of a sensitive or classified nature and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information. Safety Must be able to work in safe manner at all times, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and must be able to comply with safety standards and best practices. State of Texas Benefits and Retirement Information: https://www.ers.texas.gov/ A DPS employee who is selected for a position in the same salary group and state title as their current position will be transferred with no salary change. A DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group with a new state title may receive an increase of no more than 3.4% over their current salary regardless of posted salary.
