Work involves maintaining and repairing buildings and the site, utility systems, stationary equipment, operating motorized equipment, maintaining parking lots, site and grounds, and landscaping of the Headquarters complex in a neat, clean, safe and attractive condition. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Perform skilled or semi-skilled work to include preventative maintenance and repairing of building and/or stationary equipment involving plumbing, masonry, painting, roof gutter, and drains (including storm drains), parking lots, roads, and sidewalks, etc. 2. Mow, trim, edge, fertilize, and water all grass, shrubs and trees; use mower, tractor, chain saw, electric clipper, sod cutters, pruning shear, leaf blower and power washer. 3. Remove leaves, weeds, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from grounds and landscaping; plant trees, flowers and shrubs ensuring he campus is esthetically pleasing at all times. 4. Operate various gas and diesel powered equipment to mow grass, edge, cut limbs, trim grass, and shrubs, remove leaves, limbs, trash, weeds, sweep, and apply sand or salt on icy pavement as needed. 5. Perform inspections and minor equipment repair and preventative maintenance on equipment, tools, buildings, and grounds/site to ensure efficient and safe operations. 6. Assist with moving furniture and boxes by carrying items or using pallet jacks, dollies, etc. 7. Install and repair sprinkler systems, assist the master plumber, and oversee watering schedule as needed. 8. May mix, spray, or spread fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, pesticides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, and trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders. 9. Follow best methods and sequences to accomplish work orders or daily schedules of work on assigned tasks and notifies management of any noted building or grounds issues. 10. Complete appropriate documents, work orders, reports to include but not limited to documenting length of time spent on each job, materials used, and describing work completed. 11. May assist the recycling program as needed. 12. May read moderately complex drawings, sketches, and blueprints to determine details of assigned tasks. 13. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies. 14. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS: Education - Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalen preferred. Experience Minimum of one (1) year experience in building trades work on commercial or residential projects and attainment of competent skills in at least one (1) skills area (frame, finishing, carpentry, plumbing, sanitation, painting, grounds, etc.). Landscaping/Grounds experience is preferred. Licensure and/or Certification - If driving is required, must possess a valid driver license from state of residence. May be required to obtain a certified non-commercial pesticide applicator license from the Texas Department of Agriculture. Regulatory knowledge Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures. Maintenance knowledge Knowledge in the use and maintenance of hand and power tools and other maintenance equipment. Skill in the use of grounds keeping hand tools and equipment, in the operation of motorized and gas-operated equipment, and in the maintenance and repair of sidewalks and parking lots. Knowledge of the planting and care of trees, shrubbery, flowers, and grass; of pesticides and fertilizers. Interpersonal Skills Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers. Organizational and Prioritization Skills Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment; able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism. Analytical Skills Must demonstrate an ability to examine data/information, discern variations/similarities, and be able to identify trends, relationships and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems. Ability to follow instructions; to work form drawings, diagrams, or blueprints; and to communicate effectively. Technology (computer/hardware/software/operating systems) Must possess appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and integrated workplace management system (IWMS), a Facilities maintenance work order system. Confidentiality and Protected Information Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations, and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information. Safety Must be able to work in safe manner at all times, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and must be able to comply with safety standards and best practices. Travel and/or Schedule Must be available to travel off site and/or to other agencies; must be available for working after-hours, holidays, and weekends as needed.
