Transportation Engineer I:Performs basic engineering work for the Design Division - Project Delivery Section with a focus on assisting in the development and review of major and other project documentation. Reviews basic schematics and plans, specifications, and estimates (PSE) packages at various stages of project development; reviews preliminary bridge layouts (focusing on geometric design safety aspects); assists with developing and performing training for the Districts; and participates in meetings and conferences (including design concept conferences, value engineering studies, major corridor meetings, risk workshops, etc.). Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. Work requires contact with divisions and districts and if necessary, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Employees at this level work independently on assignments, however, unusual issues must be referred to the Supervisor. Transportation Engineer II:Performs complex engineering work for the Design Division - Project Delivery Section with a focus on assisting in the development and review of major and other project documentation. Reviews complex schematics and PSE packages at various stages of project development; reviews preliminary bridge layouts (focusing on geometric design safety aspects); assists with developing and performing training for the Districts; and participates in meetings and conferences (including design concept conferences, value engineering studies, major corridor meetings, risk workshops, etc.). Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. Work requires contact with divisions and districts and if necessary, FHWA. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives; issues are rarely referred to the Supervisor.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer I:Reviews major and other project related documents, including Project Management Plans (PMPs), Initial Financial Plans (IFPs), and Financial Plan Annual Updates (FPAUs) to meet FHWA requirements.Participates in and completes documentation associated with Project Estimate Reviews (PER), including Cost Schedule and Risk Assessments (CSRA).Develops, tracks, and monitors project progress using tools and software applications.Coordinates with District personnel and the consultants providing required documentation related to major and other projects.Performs simple to complex reviews and engineering and design-related activities for preliminary engineering, including advance project development and planning reports and schematics, as well as reviews for plans, specifications, and estimates at various stages of project development.Analyzes and assists in the resolution of design issues or other matters relevant to project development in accordance to guidelines and policies.Develops and/or reviews engineering-related documents, including correspondence, technical memorandums and reports, etc.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer II:All the Above and:Schedules and facilitates PER meetings and CSRA workshops for major and other projects.Performs complex reviews and engineering and design-related activities for preliminary engineering, including advance project development and planning reports and schematics, as well as reviews for plans, specifications, and estimates (PSE) at various stages of project development.Acts in an advisory capacity on administrative, technical, regulatory, and engineering aspects of transportation planning and project development.Travels to project or other work locations to make onsite engineering reviews, and to provide technical support.Assists with the updates to Division policies and guidance as it relates to project development and design, including updates to design manuals.Assists with updates to major and other project procedures and guidance.Assists with the raining of engineering and district staff.
