Cisco Electrical Product Engineer in Austin, Texas

What You'll Do

  • Performs portions of Electrical Engineering activities

  • Begins to assist with product and sustaining engineering related tasks; may lead Electrical Engineering projects with limited resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity

  • Supports Value Engineering initiatives within the function, including component selection, process efficiency and design changes

  • Assists with technical lifecycle management through defect reduction team participation and new component qualification

  • Supports cost avoidance projects and sustains cost reduction activities

  • Performs design lab experiments; analyzes data and makes decisions within limited parameters under regular supervision

  • Analyzes and releases product documentation

  • Participates in design for manufacturing, test, and reliability (DFM, DFT, DFR) reviews with the goal of reducing the assembly and test time and increasing the overall product quality

  • Communicates basic and moderately complex concepts; interacts with others to inform and provide suggestions for action

Who You'll Work With

Product Operations is part of Supply Chain Operations (SCO) and is responsible for New Product Introduction (NPI) and Product Life Cycle Management from Manufacturing and SCO perspective. The product Operations team gets engaged with the Design Engineering teams early in the Product development phase and are responsible for all the NPI Product Launch and supports the Products till the End of Life (EOL).

The Electrical Product Engineer is the global technical interface between Product Operations, Development Organizations, Global Supply Chain, and Global Manufacturing Operations to provide new product, Dfx, and on-going engineering for products from pre-concept commit through end of life.

In this role, you will collaborate with peers and more experienced colleagues. Typically interacts with high-level individual contributors and Managers. You will also interact with our Contract Manufacturers

With a foundational grasp of Cisco's business objectives, you are actively expanding your knowledge of the company's products, services, and customer base. You are adept at contributing to the resolution of straightforward operational, product, service, or customer-related business challenges. Through diligent analysis, inquisitive questioning, and a commitment to understanding, you employ standard procedures within the job family to facilitate root cause analysis. Your focus is on addressing yield and quality issues, thereby supporting continuous improvement in the manufacturing process.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors in electrical engineering or related discipline, or equivalent years of experience

  • 5-+ years of manufacturing experience, or Masters in electrical engineering or related discipline

Preferred Qualifications

  • This candidate works remotely & co-located to Cisco Contract Manufacturer location/facility

  • Flexibility to various time zones is important.

  • Applies basic understanding of Cisco’s business objectives and develops understanding of Cisco’s products, services, and customers

  • Contributes to solution of straightforward business problems regarding operations, products, services or customers

  • Analyzes information, asks questions and checks for understanding using standard procedures within the job family to support root cause analysis for yield and quality related issues

  • Common differentiators that signal readiness to move to second level may include time in role (12+ months), outstanding or better performance, ability to train others in the role or increasing job responsibilities as outlined in a functional job matrix

  • Requires some experience in Electrical Engineering while working to acquire higher-level knowledge and skills

  • Comfortable with technology, tools and processes that support work conducted by the job family, such as DFx, schematic, CAD, and CAE

  • Impacts own team and other teams whose work activities are closely related

  • May suggest improvements to existing processes and solutions to improve the efficiency of the team

  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions or to recommend alternative resolutions

  • Works on problems of moderate scope that may require analysis of situations, data, or problems

  • Analytical Skills: Solves a range of straightforward problems and explains logic or decisions to others

  • Soft Skills: Exchanges ideas and content in a clear manner; develops project management and presentation skills
