Johns Hopkins University Assistant Director of Operations, Data, Reporting, and Risk Management in Baltimore, Maryland

We are seeking an Assistant Director of Operations, Data, Reporting, and Risk Management within the Center for Social Concern at Johns Hopkins University who will focus on the shared services of the CSC and will manage the center’s budgeting and finance, communications, risk management, and compliance. This position will directly report to the Deputy Director of the CSC and will be responsible for leading the team of individuals who support the financial, administrative, and operational procedures of all programming and project work.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Management

  • Streamlining and updating standard operating procedures for budgeting, communications, and data and risk management functions.

  • Train, supervise, and evaluate the team of full-time staff members to ensure the successful outcomes of operations roles which may include Communications Coordinator, Budget Analyst, and Operations Specialist.

  • Oversee the risk management, training, and compliance processes of all CSC student organizations, all of which pose risk management issues for students serving locally in Baltimore City, nationally, or internationally.

  • Manage the process for MOU’s and partnership agreements, in collaboration with CSC staff and other campus partners.

  • Develop, track, and revise operational goals in alignment with growth planning for the CSC and focusing on operational excellence in all that we do.

  • Structure the content of the CSC annual report in collaboration with CSC staff.

  • Lead decision-making around platform and software use and access for CSC operations.

  • Provide metrics and measurements on CSC functions to the leadership team.

  • Maintain and update compliance documents such as Standard Operating Procedures, reporting necessary changes to the leadership team.

Community Relations and Communications

  • Participate in programmatic steering committees as appropriate.

  • Work collaboratively with the leadership team to plan for and conduct focus groups, internal and external evaluations, and/or surveys to community partners to identify community needs and assets and strengthen programs

  • Support the plan for marketing and branding strategies, ensuring a unified voice of the CSC programming and aligned with Student Affairs and broader JHU guidelines, while meeting programming and recruitment goals.

  • Inform target-setting for CSC programs and functions based on data from communications analytics and Hopkins Engage.

General Functions

  • Establish strong relationships with the Leadership Team and staff in the Center for Social Concern.

  • Build and sustain meaningful working relationships with colleagues across Student Affairs, other areas of the University, and community partners.

  • Identify best practices and develop benchmarks around operational processes in the field of civic and community engagement in higher education.

  • Work with autonomy and respect the importance of collaboration with key partners and stakeholders.

  • Maintain confidentiality.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • A sophisticated understanding of the economic and racialized systemic inequities in Baltimore and demonstrated commitment to advancing equitable civic learning experiences.

  • Familiarity with data management, finance, and analytic software and platforms.

  • Strong skills in program, project, and/or volunteer management.

  • Excellent oral, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • The ability to work independently to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced setting.

  • A demonstrated understanding and enthusiasm for democratic engagement, community outreach, public service and/or volunteerism.

  • A collaborative and flexible working style.

  • A demonstrated capacity to work effectively using a racial equity lens with persons of diverse backgrounds and to foster sensitivity in student life and in the community.

Additional Information

  • This position’s duties will require routine evening and/or weekend work.

  • They will be expected to periodically represent the office on various internal and external committees.

  • Duties may also require in-and-out-of-state travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

  • Three years of related experience required.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in operations management, risk management, project management, civic engagement, experiential education, student affairs, service-learning facilitation, nonprofit program management, or other related fields is ideal.

  • Previous experience supervising is preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $45,700 - $80,000 Annually (Commensurate with experience)
