Johns Hopkins University Financial Manager in Baltimore, Maryland

The Johns Hopkins University is seeking to hire a Financial Manager who will report to the Director of Finance on the Basic Science Finance Team. The Financial Manager will be responsible for providing oversight of the day-to-day financial and accounting operations for the Basic Science Consortium Finance Vertical. They will work In collaboration with School of Medicine (SOM) and Basic Science departmental leadership. The Financial Manager will develop financial planning & cost analyses, interpret & review financial data to evaluate and determine financial performance, and assist with overall business decisions. This position will have a heavy emphasis on financial modeling, financial analysis, financial planning, and budgeting.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Financial

  • Provides oversight in the development, preparation, monitoring, projections (enrollments, personnel and non-personnel expenses), and reconciling of academic and administrative budgets.

  • Works closely with Administrative Managers and Directors, develops financial reports for forecasting, supports administrative and financial needs of programs.

  • Create and monitor financial systems, structures, and controls.

  • Develop a financial report of operations to summarize financial performance.

  • Generate reports and tools to measure and improve financial performance. Works closely with Departments to develop and manage annual budgets.

  • Works with the Associate Director, Basic Science Departments & Centers FP&A, and Associate Director of Finance on both short and long-term programmatic strategic financial planning activities including providing key information for the five-year financial plans and developing forecast and financial projections based on financial strategy and resources that realistically reflect the departments' risks and opportunities.

  • Monitors basic science department budgets, individually and as a whole, for profitability.

  • Designs and produces various reports utilizing institutional data to create monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

  • Reviews and approves monthly accounts reconciliations and/or business plan activity, corrects errors, and informs leadership of any problems or discrepancies.

  • Liaison with academic staff regarding correct preparation of various forms such check deposits, online payments, travel reimbursements (initiated through Concur), shopping cart and other related financial transactions.

  • Approval of Procurement Cards.

  • Allocates resources and develops efficiencies to improve and maintain the services of the vertical and to ensure positive financial performance.

  • Provides departmental information as requested by the school or external entities

  • Assists with compliance matters.

  • Oversee a team of Financial Analysts

  • Review of faculty and staff effort, this includes submission of E-forms and adhering to compliance of effort reporting.

  • Assists with monitoring academic programs salaries, headcount, and other key HR data.

  • Works with Basic Science HR to ensure timely preparation of payroll, maintenance of other personnel information, and compliance with human resource guidelines for faculty, staff and student workers.

  • Work with Basic Science RMS to provide departments and faculty full view picture of their funding and salary support.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Background knowledge of expenditure accounting and reporting systems, P-card, etc. Knowledge of human resource administration.

  • Significant experience in spreadsheet development and analysis.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (specifically Word, Excel and Power Point) required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field.

  • Five (5) years related financial/accounting and financial management experience, e.g., planning, directing, monitoring, organizing, and controlling the monetary resources of a department, center, or unit.

  • Additional education (master's in a related field) may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of SAP or other enterprise systems.

  • Working knowledge of Student Information Systems (SIS) for reports related to enrollments, faculty teaching assignments, etc.

Role/Level/Range: ATP/04/PE

Starting Salary Range: $72,600 - $127,00 Annually ($99,800 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

Schedule: M-F 8:30 - 5:00
