Johns Hopkins University Sr. Grants & Contracts Analyst in Baltimore, Maryland

We are seeking a Sr. Grants & Contracts Analyst to work alongside faculty and fellow colleagues to support pre-award activities in the office of the Vice Provost for Research. This person will help faculty enhance their research competitiveness, catalyze new research and institutional collaboration, and design and implement strategic services for faculty and researchers at Johns Hopkins seeking external funding. The primary goal of this Research Development position is to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient proposal preparation for various funding agencies and award types, while meeting sponsor requirements and deadlines. This position will work independently on highly complex grant and contract submissions. They will also provide high-level, professional guidance on protocols and funding regulations to PIs and other scientific/research professionals within the University.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Independently manage all assigned grant submissions to ensure timeliness and accuracy.

  • Provide instruction, preparation assistance, and support related to grant application procedures.

  • Partner with departmental staff and the Office of Research Administration (ORA, or JHURA) toward the planning and development of application submissions to various federal offices, private agencies/foundations and commercial companies.

  • Understand and utilize institutional policies for pre-award grant process and sponsor guidelines.

  • Review all sponsored project proposals for faculty prior to them being forwarded to ORA/JHURA for signature. Checking for accuracy, content, and adherence to all relevant guidelines.

  • Responsible for the timely preparation of proposal budgets for PI review and draft budgets justifications.

  • Serve as liaison between research units, central offices, and funding agencies.

  • Provide groundwork for subcontract negotiations.

  • Support PI with administrative assistance for all IRB and ACUC protocols.

  • Ensure compliance in all other areas related to grant and contract management, including sponsoring organization guidelines, internal protocols, accurate protocol information within grant documents, conflicts of interest, etc.

  • Work with international sites in terms of compliance.

  • Interact with external research/administrative professionals.

  • Provide excellent customer service to all faculty.

  • Responsible for the timely submission of JITs.

  • Maintain ongoing updates and communications related to current grants and contracts, this includes relevant updates and reports to the RDT Director, as needed.

  • Remain updated on changes in policy and sponsors requirements.

  • May supervise non-exempt staff.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of accounting and budgeting theory and practices required.

  • Ability to make independent judgments and to act on decisions on a daily basis.

  • Ability to work with flexibility on several tasks simultaneously and to meet various concurrent deadlines.

  • Knowledge of external Federal guidelines/procedures for grants and contracts, including NIH, NSF, DOD ARPHA-H, and CDC.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • Four years of related experience in sponsored research and/or financial positions, preferably in an academic or medical setting.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

  • Successful completion of the RAT program (13-15 months) is equivalent to two years of relevant experience for this position. If an employee does not successfully complete the program, no additional experience will be applied.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Johns Hopkins University accounting system and related fiscal offices.

  • CRA certification.

Starting Salary Range: $62,300 - $109,000 Annually (Commensurate with experience)
