We are based in Baltimore, Maryland, and are currently in search of a Staff Accountant for our team. This role is primarily focused on maintaining and monitoring journals, balancing accounts from federal grants, and reviewing invoices, checks, and supporting documentation. This is a contract role that does not include supervisory duties but does require a strong understanding of accounting procedures and standards. The ideal candidate is expected to have experience with budget management, reconciliation, and financial management systems.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain and monitor journals and balance accounts

• Review invoices, checks, and supporting documentation for compliance with grant regulations

• Compile data to prepare budget to actual report on various grants

• Analyze accounts and records for compliance and recommend corrections

• Reconcile and balance accounts with minimal supervision

• Contact program or grant managers for additional information

• Utilize financial management systems for various accounting tasks

• Maintain accurate records of accounting procedures and standards

• Foster a cooperative work environment and collaborate with others

• Conduct research and resolve problems related to accounting procedures and standards.

Requirements

• Minimum of three years of experience working as a Staff Accountant or in a similar role.

• Demonstrable skills in managing accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR).

• Proven experience in conducting bank reconciliations.

• Knowledge of handling general ledger accounts and journal entries.

• Familiarity with month-end close processes and procedures.

• Ability to prepare and analyze balance sheets.

• Experience in budget management and forecasting.

• Proficiency in conducting reconciliations.

• Experience in invoice processing including entering invoices.

• Knowledge of government grants, their application, and management.
