​​Within Azure Data, the business intelligence team builds and maintains Power BI which is the undisputed leader in BI tool in the industry today and serves as the bridge between data professionals & Office users. Power BI’s core value proposition is to enable end users to get answers & insights from their data through data visualization.

​​The team is currently seeking a Principal Engineering lead. In this role, you will lead a team dedicated to enhancing developer productivity and satisfaction within the PowerBI client repository. Your primary responsibilities will include overseeing the team's efforts to maintain high-quality code and ensure compliance with industry standards. By fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement, you will play a pivotal role in driving the success of our PowerBI client engineering initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers in the development and maintenance of the Power BI web client repository and code base.

  • Define and implement strategies to improve developer productivity, including optimizing development workflows, providing tools and resources, and fostering a collaborative environment.

  • Establish and enforce coding standards, best practices, and guidelines to ensure high-quality code within the repository.

  • Conduct regular code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members to promote code quality and adherence to standards.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and quality assurance, to align engineering efforts with business objectives and user needs.

  • Identify areas for improvement in the Power BI web client repository and code base and drive initiatives to address technical debt, enhance performance, and increase scalability.

  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in software engineering, and leverage this knowledge to drive innovation and continuous improvement within the team.​

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Typescript, C#, Python

Other Requirements:

The Aability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • Strong Leadership Skills: Proven experience in leading and mentoring engineering teams, with the ability to inspire and motivate team members towards achieving common goals.
