Our group is responsible for the Linux operating systems that power Azure – from VMs and containers, to bare metal, and silicon – in the cloud and at the edge. We work closely with upstream communities, with software and hardware vendors, OEMs, Linux distribution partners, and with hundreds of customers inside and outside Microsoft to create and operate OS platforms and products with the highest security, hardware-accelerated performance, and innovation agility.

You will be part of IDC Linux PM team - this team is accountable for working with Microsoft teams in APAC on Azure Linux adoption, for growing the external utilization of Azure Linux with AKS, for kickstarting local Linux communities, and for enabling global operations for all our Linux programs. In this role, you will work closely with engineering leaders, with hardware/software architects, with upstream project leaders, with major IHVs, security and incident response. The person will also be responsible for overseeing the performance of Azure Linux. This is a fantastic opportunity to drive meaningful impact for customers.

Responsibilities

Project scope definition and planning through delivery of assigned product and related product releases

Ensure the oversight and coordination of dependencies across the project and resolve or escalate conflicts

Provide customer input represented in both technical and business terms with descriptive requirements to ensure the value of the project is realized

Deliver, document, and circulate an end-to-end plan, including activity, dependencies, timing, and ownership. Follow up with specific owners to deliver components of the project on-time

Evaluate, and compare performance against other market offerings in azure and develop baseline targets. - beyond the meetings in the below bullet, I do want this person to proactively call out baseline performance, and how we compare against other distributions in azure (and other clouds in the future)

Conduct regular meetings with the senior executive bodies to inform and alert them of any issues arising from the performance of the individual projects within the portfolio to assure the on-plan usage and consumption of resources and funding, and to highlight any variances

Lead reviews of any significant initiatives, projects or programs that are challenged and provide recommendations as to whether it should continue, be significantly changed, placed on hold or discontinued

Arrive at sound decisions that generate results, uses data and other inputs to make decisions, owns decision, and takes accountability for work using strong organizational and analytical skills

Qualifications

Required qualifications :

• Knowledge, experience and skills required:

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering, or a related field, or equivalent alternative education, skills, and/or practical experience is required.

• Minimum of 6+ years’ experience in a software development leader or program manager role managing multiple software projects concurrently

• Adaptive communication – in verbal and written form; with peers, executives and engineers.

• 2+ years of experience working with global teams in different time zones.

• 2+ years of experience working with Linux in production environments

Preferred qualifications :

• Experience with performance analytics, benchmarking concepts and tooling. - more directly calling out the perf nature of the role.

• Proven ability to drive large scale projects with high collaboration and leadership

• Excellent written and oral communications

• Excellent judgment, decision making skills, and the ability to work under continual deadline pressure

• Excellent presentation skills and experience of presenting to senior management

• Depth knowledge across PM Methodologies (e.g., DevOps, Iterative, Waterfall, SCRUM, XP, PMI, Agile)
