IBM SRE Linux Systems Engineer in Bangalore, India

Introduction

The SRE Linux Systems engineer role is to manage QA, customer test, and production Linux systems within the IBM Sterling Data Exchange environments. Primary responsibilities are ensuring compliance, security, and implementing changes as needed. The ideal candidate will work closely with cross functional teams within the business to understand complex systems issues and resolve them as per standard ITIL process.

Your Role and Responsibilities

  • Installs and configures Linux systems including back-end databases and scripts.

  • Performs system maintenance by reviewing error logs.

  • Creates system backups.

  • Monitors system performance to prevent slowdowns and crashes.

  • Provides technical support.

  • Maintains system security.

  • Repsonsible for patching

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

5+ years managing Linux/Redhat in a production environment

  • Experience with system build, configuration management, operating system troubleshooting practices.

  • Authentication and access control configuration and management

  • Network and protocol subsystem troubleshooting

  • Maintain security compliance standards

  • Use of standard management tools such as Ansible, bash scripting, perl, python

Strong communication skills both verbal and written

Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to maintain specific, and recognize deviations from, standard configurations

  • Inventory management automation support

Ability to collaborate effectively with cross platform teams

  • Fundamentals of application and database operations to support the teams

  • Ability to manage outage situations and expectations between groups

Ability to break down complex problems, evaluate technical processes, and apply the appropriate operations for specific tasks

  • Identification of underlying issues; cpu memory disk network other

  • Operating Systems patch management and compliance standard

  • Support and management of an enterprise monitoring solution

Provide level-3 support and participate in an on-call rotation

  • Support of a 24/7 commercial environment

  • Maintain a rapid response and problem escalation posture

Create and update SOP and procedural documentation as needed

Work within established configuration and change management policies

  • Follow standard business processes for work requests and system update procedures

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Openshift/Kubernetes experience

  • RHCE certification

  • RHCSA Certification
