Job Summary

The Maintenance Foreman is responsible for successful execution and completion of interim, post construction and ongoing maintenance contracts according to pre-established schedules, standards, and procedures to provide a high quality of service. This is a working Foreman position.

Typical Duties

  • Routinely monitor sites for quality and follow up with crews on performance improvements

  • Understand and ensures client satisfaction at each site

  • Assign daily tasks to maintenance crews

  • Communicate opportunities and concerns to General Superintendent

  • Conduct and oversee execution of minor enhancements of projects

  • Complete daily paperwork timely and accurately

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and coordinate them under tight deadlines

  • Ability to lead and motivate team

  • Demonstrate proper pruning techniques of both trees and shrubs while considering the plant material and season

  • Understand and execute ideal fertilization strategies for turf, shrubs, and trees

  • Highly knowledgeable of herbicide applications and relevant practices

  • Have a thorough understanding of the installation and maintenance of annuals

  • Understands and practices the importance equipment hygiene to avoid spreading pests, disease or unwanted plant materials

  • Able to install and service commercial irrigation systems.

  • Qualified and/or certified (as required) to plumb both standard and technical systems, including PVC, copper, fused HDPE, and gasketed pipe

  • Troubleshoot and repair irrigation systems

  • Able to install, wire, program, and audit commercial controllers, including communication modules, ET devices, sensors, pumps, flow meters, master valves, and fertigation systems. Incorporate audit data and ET information into controller programming

  • Perform irrigation audit tasks, including: assessing existing irrigation systems for deficiencies, evaluating plant ET rates, climate/microclimate considerations, soil characterization and slope, distribution uniformity assessment, available water pressure, or any other consideration affecting efficient water use. Use this data to recommend system upgrades, as well as irrigation programming adjustments

  • Able to locate and repair broken irrigation wires

  • Perform regular system maintenance, including spring startup, and seasonal adjustments

  • Setup and operate computerized and/or remote water management systems

  • Conduct initial and on-going training of maintenance crews

  • Assess skill level and work behavior of employees and provide recommendations to General Superintendent regarding professional development, performance, and promotional candidacy

  • Supervise safe loading and unloading of equipment

  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures

  • Develop and maintain safe working conditions by promoting the company’s “Culture of Safety” including but not limited to reinforcing weekly tailgate safety meetings and ensuring proper personal protective equipment usage

  • Assess equipment operation issues and effectively communicate repair needs to shop personnel.

  • Ability to safely operate commercial landscape equipment and tools

    Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required.

Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED required and at least 10 years of related landscape work experience

Language Skills: must be able to read and write in English; bilingual and biliterate in Spanish preferred

Mathematical Skills: basic math and plan reading

Reasoning Ability: apply common sense understanding to carry out multiple step instructions

Interpersonal Skills: Employee must exhibit exceptional integrity, personal drive and self-direction

Computer Skills: Basic tablet and smartphone skills related to work requirements

Certificates, Licenses, and Registration: Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record, Commercial Pesticide Applicators License required (can obtain after hire), Certified Irrigation Contractor required (can obtain after hire), Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor preferred (can obtain after hire)

Compensation:

$37 - $46, based on skills experience and knowledge
