Job Summary:

The Automation Engineering Specialist will support product development teams by providing advanced computer-aided tools, processes, and systems. This role involves developing and maintaining product development process technology using cutting-edge tools, ensuring system administrative tasks are completed, and maintaining critical application software such as Creo Parametric and Windchill PDMLink .

What Will You Do? 

In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for: 

  • System Administration:

  • Ensure daily system administrative tasks are completed, including backups, storage space management, software bug resolution, monthly archiving, off-site backups, and annual file housekeeping.

  • Collaborate with vendors and service suppliers to maximize resource uptime, diagnose system failures, and initiate appropriate service procedures.

    Software Maintenance:

  • Maintain operating systems and application software, including installation of new and updated software releases and reloading software due to hardware failures.

  • Develop and maintain software tools to assist with periodic system administration duties, enhance user productivity, and provide new functionality using languages such as "C," Perl, and SQL.

    Capacity and Performance Management:

  • Regularly review system capacity , reliability, and performance, and propose hardware and software solutions to meet strategic and operational requirements of product development teams.

  • Provide input on the strategic direction of the Computer -Aided Engineering and Product Systems (CAEPS) group and investigate new technologies for their applicability to The Toro Company (TTC) Engineering departments.

    Training and Support:

  • Facilitate the training of new users on new technology applications, such as Creo Parametric and Windchill PDMLink .

  • Participate in and contribute to the CAEPS support team by developing and presenting internal workshops and evaluating external training resources to recommend appropriate alternatives .

    Liaison and Collaboration:

  • Serve as a liaison between Engineering Technical Services (ETS) and TTC Engineering departments and the TTC IT department.

  • Engage with computer user groups of companies using similar hardware and software to stay current with industry best practices.

  • Collaborate with customers of engineering data, including publications, plants, purchasing, service, and advance planning, to improve productivity in information transfer.

    Engineering Support:

  • Work closely with product development teams to provide engineering expertise , including analysis, problem-solving techniques, and prior experiences.

  • Conduct field visits as needed to understand customer needs and provide solutions.

    Fiscal Responsibility:

  • Exercise fiscal responsibility in purchasing equipment and supplies and provide recommendations for future spending to department leadership.

What Do You Need?

  • Associates Degree --OR -- 5 + years of relevant CAD/CAM experience required (Engineering Specialist III) 7+ years experience (Engineering Specialist IV) .

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; e.g., ability to develop clear, concise business correspondence and relay accurate information to management.

  • Proficient MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) skills. 

  • Demonstrated competency in presentation creation, database management, information storage, and retrieval.

  • Dedication to the productivity of users and serving our customer needs.

  • After normal hours work may be required to assure maximum up-time during prime working hours.

  • Some travel is required to remote sites, plants, customers, and user group meetings.
