Role Summary and Responsibilities:

  • Translating the Engineering requirements into a Test requirements, development of component specifications for lab test setup, Building the required test facilities and supporting the Validations of Electromechanical locomotive components and subsystems, e.g. large Induction motors/Traction Motors, alternator, inverter, insulation system, cables, busbars, transformer, integrations with closed loop control system for the Motor and invertor testing.

  • Drive operational and execution excellence through innovative planning, resource engagement and close working with both local and global stakeholder teams. The individual will also drive synergies with external labs/partners to expand our capabilities beyond in-house capacity

  • Drive high utilization of test set ups and meet engineering productivity through smart validation

  • Work closely with site cross functional teams of EHS, Facilities, Compliance, Import/Export, Logistics etc to integrate lab plans as applicable for implementation

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelors/master’s degree in Electrical engineering discipline from institute of repute

  • Min of 10 to 12 years of Experience in design, development and validation preferably in the field of Power Electronics or Electrical Components in general and Specific Experience in testing of locomotive’s electrical components like Motor. Alternator, Inverter, transformer, compressor, IGBTs etc

  • Having knowledge and technical Depth in Electromechanical locomotive components and subsystems, e.g. large Induction motors/Traction Motors, alternator, inverter, insulation system, cables, busbars, transformer, integrations with closed loop control system for the Motor and invertor testing.

  • Having good knowledge of: manufacturing processes of electrical machines, power electronic components, insulation systems and materials, magnetic materials, both LV and HV, cables, busbars and induction motors, rotor dynamic balancing and machine alignment

  • Should familiar with international standards and best practices related to the electrical machines, power electronics and electrical systems

  • Should familiar with the electrical and mechanical phenomena such as EMC, corrosion, noise and vibration

  • Having familiar with CAD design (e.g. Matlab, Mathcad, FE analysis etc.)

  • Ability to learn other software tool applications to support HMI and other application changes

• Excellent oral & written technical communication

• Strong interpersonal & leadership skills

• Commitment to Integrity & Compliance

• Passion to drive innovative component level validations and expand the lab capabilities to help business

• Experience/familiarity in a lab environment with data acquisition systems, test instrumentation, industrial test laboratory environments and procedures

Desired Characteristics:

  • Global exposure with experience of working with global partners

  • Proven record of demonstrated expertise in Electrical component validation

  • Design of test benches and rigs and for laboratory testing and prototype testing

  • Advanced degree is a plus

  • Demonstrated capability of leading projects and executing on time/quality/cost.
