The Opportunity

Oracle’s engineering teams are building services within Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). These services provide the foundation for businesses around the world as well as Oracle’s Cloud Applications.

You will build tools to address hard operational problems while enabling our service developers to remain agile and deliver feature changes. You will deliver the solutions that directly contribute to our customer’s success. An SRE will spend a significant amount of their time doing operations related work such as production issues and service on-call. When not working on operations the SRE is working on software engineering tasks such as design and development of systems that increase our reliability, scalability and reduce operational overhead through automation. The ideal SRE candidate is a programmer who has large breadth of knowledge and experience including areas such as storage, networking, internet protocols an Linux systems.

Responsibilities

As an SRE in the team you will be required to:

• Lead/Mentor/Guide and drive projects end to end

• Monitor our service and proactively debug operational issues.

• Work with internal and external teams to diagnose performance issues .

• Automate and maintain build and test systems including systems for performance and scalability testing.

• Improve efficiency of the deployment processes across a fast-growing number of regions through automation and scale improvements to tools and dashboards.

• Participate in our on-call rotation and resolve complex distributed issues through debugging, communication and collaboration across multiple SRE teams across OCI.

• Improve our operational capabilities by developing runbooks, alarming, and building tools and documentation that enable customers to self-diagnose problems.

• Deploy our service in new regions and help to automate this process.

Basic Qualifications:

• 7+ years automation experience in a Linux based environment

• 4+ years of experience with Linux shell scripting and Python

• Proficient with Linux based build and analysis tools

• Familiarity with CICD environments

• Familiarity with Agile Development

• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Ansible)

• Familiarity with deploying services on Cloud Platforms

• Proficient with commonly used networking protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP

• Proficient with Kubernetes (Core Concepts, Cluster Architecture, Management, Monitoring/Logging, Security, HA, Optimization).

• Troubleshooting and performance tuning skills .

• Bachelors in computer science and Engineering or related engineering fields

Soft Skills:

• Collaboration: Working effectively with cross functional teams, including developers, QA, and customer support

• Communication: Clear communication skills for documenting processes and explaining technical concepts

• Problem-solving: Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve issues quickly

• Work Autonomously: Can work with little to no direction at times to further our goal of continuous improvement!

Preferred Qualifications:

• Cloud technology related certification
