What you'll do...

As the Senior Manager for Data Engineering you will be responsible for overseeing and leading a team of data engineers in designing, implementing, and maintaining data infrastructure and systems. In this role, you will play a critical role in managing and optimizing the organization's data architecture to ensure smooth data flow, integration, and accessibility across various systems and platforms. The Senior Manager for Data Engineering also collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, such as data scientists, analysts, and software engineers, to identify and address data-related challenges, improve data quality, and drive data-driven decision-making. You will also provide technical expertise and guidance to the team, ensuring adherence to best practices, data governance, and security standards. Additionally, the Senior Manager for Data Engineering keeps abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously enhance the organization's data engineering capabilities and drive innovation.

About Team:

Everyone has data, but the sheer volume of data at Walmart can be limitless. In the Data Engineering team, we help Walmart manage this data by building pipelines and data lakes to prepare big data for analysis and unlocking actionable insights in real-time. We also use cross-departmental data and machine learning to build a holistic view of true profitability, saving millions of dollars across item categories and geographies while assisting our leadership in making better decisions faster.

What you'll do:

• Lead and manage a team of data engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure successful project delivery.

• Develop and implement data engineering strategies, including designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and data warehouses.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., data science, analytics, product) to understand business requirements and provide technical solutions to meet those needs.

• Oversee the design and implementation of data governance policies and best practices to ensure data quality, integrity, and security.

• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in data engineering to drive continuous improvement and innovation within the team.

• Drive the adoption of data engineering best practices, standards, and processes to ensure efficient and effective data management across the organization.

• Manage relationships with stakeholders, including senior leadership, to effectively communicate project updates, risks, and opportunities.

What you'll bring:

• Proven experience in managing data engineering teams and delivering successful data engineering projects.

• Strong knowledge of data engineering concepts, data integration, data modeling, and ETL processes.

• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.

• Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their associated services (e.g., S3, Redshift, BigQuery).

• Familiarity with data governance frameworks, data security, and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA).

• Strong leadership abilities, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and stakeholders.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Minimum Qualifications...

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related field. Option 2: 7 years' experience in software engineering or related field. Option 3: Master's degree in Computer Science and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related field.

4 years' experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics.

1 year's supervisory experience.
