Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Animal Health Surveillance Lead * to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in *Bethesda, MD.

In the Animal Health Surveillance Lead role, you will evaluate the health status of research animals via sample collection and sample evaluation, as well as support the daily operation of the health surveillance and parasitology labs.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Gather and prepare laboratory materials. Perform routine gross necropsy, and parasitology examinations of animals. Collect and prepare tissue for evaluation in the PCR, bacteriology, and parasitology labs, and examine parasitology samples. Prepare blood samples for shipment.

  • Perform computer-based accessioning of animal and sample submissions. Input results and create reports enter in client’s database system and reconcile customer paperwork with submission documentation to ensure accuracy. May be responsible for the coordination of biological test data, GLP documentation, and departmental recordkeeping.

  • Train departmental technicians and assist in scheduling cross support for technicians.

  • Actively interacts with customers as required to solve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints and to provide technical assistance.

Other duties will include general housekeeping, in addition to reviewing, comprehending, and complying with all SOPs and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific areas.

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements related to the Animal Health Surveillance Lead position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technically related field (i.e.: Biology)

  • Minimum three years related technical experience.

  • AALAS certification at the ALAT level desired

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

The pay range for this position is $27 - $32  per hour.  Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
