The successful candidate will have experience working with students on a variety of substance use and behavioral health issues, and the ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of students, staff, families and the public. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, individual and group substance use evaluation and counseling, referral to appropriate substance use treatment programs, and collaborating with a variety of school and community of stakeholders. This position will likely be shared between Biddeford High School and our Alternative Pathways Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides individual support for students.

  • Provides short term individual/group substance use prevention education and counseling.

  • Provides group education in classroom settings in collaboration with BHS Student Services.

  • Refers students and families to outside counseling resources for long-term counseling support.

  • Develops and maintains partnerships with community agencies and organizations.

  • Collaborates with families, school staff, administration, and the community to support student success and wellness.

  • Supports students with developing protective factors.

  • Identify students who are at risk, collaborate with guardians and community supports, and develop prevention plans.

  • Provides family education in relation to Substance Use Disorders.

  • Provide crisis intervention.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The individual must be motivated and have a significant understanding of the current drug epidemic and how it affects our community. At least 2 years’ experience in Substance Use Disorder counseling. The individual also must be familiar with community support systems, referral processes and resources available to our students and their families. NPI number and ability to bill to MaineCare/Insurance preferred.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATION: LADC (preferred), LCSW, LCPC considered
