Bozeman Health Administrator of Clinical Services & Operations - Big Sky in Big Sky, Montana

Big Sky Medical Center recently earned the Montana Trauma Receiving Facility designation, commonly referred to as Level 5 Trauma Center. Big Sky Medical Center has been caring for the greater Big Sky community since 2015. It is an eight-bed critical access hospital providing emergency and primary care to the Big Sky and West Yellowstone communities. The two-story, 35,000 square foot medical center includes an emergency department with a heli-stop, inpatient care, primary care, behavioral health, imaging and ultrasound, laboratory and inpatient and retail pharmacy.

Position Summary:

The Administrator of Big Sky Medical Center (BSMC) oversees BSMC’s day to day operations which include: an 8-bed inpatient/swing bed unit, Emergency Department, inpatient and outpatient laboratory, inpatient and outpatient pharmacy, imaging department (x-ray, CT, MRI, and Ultrasound services) , Big Sky Primary Care Clinic, outpatient Behavioral Health services, and specialty outreach clinics as well as related facility support services. The Administrator will direct a system shared services model to plan, staff, execute, and monitor Big Sky Medical Center’s operations (facilities, construction, environmental services, nutrition services, materials management, and biomedical engineering) subject to policies, budgets, objectives, and directives mandated by regulatory agencies and DNV and in alignment with the executive team and the Bozeman Health System Board. Serves as a mentor and leader to hospital management. Responsible for strengthening and building relationships with medical staff, hospital staff, community members and regional healthcare partners. Enhances patient care, nursing practice, safety and quality in accordance with organizational policies, evidence-based practice and standards of professional practice. Promotes a professional practice environment and develops and maintains collegial and collaborative partnerships across Bozeman Health to positively impact clinical operations, financial stewardship, employee engagement, and patient care experience and outcomes. Collaborates with the entire senior leadership team across all areas of operations and shared services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Medicine, Nursing, Business, Health Care Administration or related field

  • Five (5) years of progressive leadership roles in healthcare services, ambulatory care, integrated delivery system and/or physician practice management

  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, management, capital and operational budgeting, quality improvement, and service delivery.

  • Advanced knowledge of health system shared-services structure, accreditation requirements, clinical programs (examples: stroke and trauma), policies, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of CAH cost-based reimbursement.

  • Knowledge of the State of Montana and CMS standards as they relate to nursing and clinical practices.

  • Preferred: FACHE certification or demonstrated progress towards certification

  • Preferred: Experience with Clinical Program Development

  • Preferred: Critical Access Hospital (CAH experience)

  • Preferred: Long-term care experience

  • Preferred: Experience working in a highly matrixed organization and integrated delivery system

  • Directs broad operations to ensure the provision of comprehensive departmental services in compliance with all regulatory agencies and hospital requirements.

  • Ensures a collaborative departmental approach to long-range strategic operational planning, care and service design and development of organizational policies, which reflect the mission of the organization.

  • Coordinates and oversees the organization-wide departmental services. Continuously assesses, measures and improves departmental performance.

Schedule Requirements:

  • This role requires regular and sustained attendance.

  • The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.

  • On-call work may be required to respond promptly to organizational, patient, or employee needs.
