City of Binghamton Traffic Sign Maintainer in Binghamton, New York
Traffic Sign Maintainer - General employment applications may be obtained at the office of the Municipal Civil Service Commission, 4th floor, City Hall, Governmental Plaza, Binghamton, New York, 13901 or from the City Web-Site at www.binghamton-ny.gov. Application must be submitted by 5 P.M. on last date to file. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is skilled work in the maintenance, repair and installation of a variety of traffic control signs. The work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level technical supervisor with wide leeway permitted in preparing time and work schedules. Occasionally, the incumbent of this position may supervise subordinate unskilled workers in specified assignments of major projects. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Installs traffic control signs within the legal requirements prescribed by the New York State Vehicular and Traffic Law and by City laws, codes and ordinances; Maintains, repairs and replaces signs and sign posts; Operates drill presses, power shears and braking machines in the fabrication of metal signs; Uses welding equipment in fashioning signs; Bakes signs in vacuum ovens; Operates motor equipment to transport signs, sign posts and equipment necessary in the repair and/or installation of signs. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge in the practices, tools, terminology and accident precautions in the metal working trade; working knowledge of the New York State Vehicular and Traffic Law; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to operate and care for power equipment; willingness and ability to lead or supervise in work projects or department activities; ability to operate a personal computer and utilize common office software programs including word processing, spreadsheet, and database at an acceptable rate of accuracy and speed; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of experience in Fabricating and installing Traffic Safety Signs. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Eligibility for appropriate N.Y. State Drivers License at time of application, possession at time of appointment and maintain the license during the entire length of appointment.
