HealthPartners Hospice Medical Secretary in Bloomington, Minnesota

HealthPartners is hiring a Medical Secretary to work in Hospice. The overall function of the medical secretary is to assist patients, physicians and health professionals with completion of correspondence, including forms, letters and reports, to perform release of medical information duties in accordance with medical-legal guidelines and to respond to questions regarding billing. QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: High school diploma or GED Ability to understand medical record systems Familiarity with medical-legal guidelines Customer service experience with emphasis on strong oral communication skills, telephone etiquette in dealing with professionals Strong written communication skills including punctuation, spelling, neatness and knowledge of business letter format Familiarity with computers Must meet one of the following experience requirements: One year of GHI experience related to billing, release of medical information or forms completion Two years of medical insurance experience including release of information, workers compensation, third party claims, or no-fault Medical secretary program completion certificate Completion of a certificate from a Health Career Program, including course work in medical legal guidelines, business communications, and medical office procedures One year of GHI experience with completion of course work in medical legal guidelines, business communications, and medical office procedures Ability to set-up and maintain files PREFERRED: Experience on the personal computer Completion of class on an overview of medical record coding Completion of a class on medical-legal guidelines REQUIRED TESTING: Medical terminology test 30 wpm typing PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods, close visual perception. Ability to read, write and speak English. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Complete medical forms related to Workers Compensation, no-fault, third party disability insurance, or insurance applications; photocopy medical records; document in the medical record and keep log of completed requests. After reviewing forms for accuracy and completeness of information, consistently and accurately enter supplemental billing information data. Prepare itemized statements. Communicate GHI medical-legal guidelines to requestors; accurately process all requests for release of medical information. Process all subpoenas and court orders. Deliver the medical record and the copies to the court and present them to the Officer of the Court. Schedule depositions, phone conferences, and meetings and bill for clinicians and medical secretary services regarding legal proceedings. Review the Living Will for completeness. Notify the patient if additional information is needed. Document in the medical record and route for filing. Type physicians' correspondence; may be requested to edit for spelling or punctuation. Develop typewritten memorandum to patients. Photocopy medical records as appropriate. Act as a liaison between the medical center and Patient Accounting for clarification of billing data. Facilitate medical record reviewal for outside requestors consistent with GHI's medical-legal guidelines. Orient new staff to medical secretary responsibilities and act as the medical center resource to staff in understanding requests for medical record information and billing forms. Retrieval of supplemental deficiency list billing information. Perform other duties as assigned.
