Job Description

BME Fire Trucks is looking for experienced chassis mechanics. The chassis is the foundation of the fire apparatus and is the power that drives the truck as well as the water pump and controls the lights and sirens. As a chassis mechanic you be responsible for:

  • Putting on bumpers
  • Putting on rear steps
  • Attaching the water pump

Qualifications

WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:

  • Background in automotive or diesel mechanics.
  • Basic math skills with ability to read tape measure
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds (rarely required but could be possible)
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, squat, or kneel regularly as well as climb stairs/ladders
  • Ability to pass a drug test and a criminal background check.
  • High school or adult mechanics course
  • Mechanic apprenticeship
  • Excellent diagnostic skills
  • Ability to use plasma torch
  • Experience with hand and power tools
  • Experience with DOT airline fittings, PTO gear boxes, drivelines
  • Hands on experience with impacts, drills, plasma torches, magnetic drills
  • Dependability
  • Motivation
  • Self-Drive
