    The Opportunity and Who You’ll Work With:

Position Type: Permanent, Full Time, Benefits Eligible

Work Format: Hybrid, minimum of 2 days onsite, more may be needed. Hybrid scheduling is dependent on events programming.

Schedule: Monday – Friday. Hours are typically 02:00PM-10:00PM ET with occasional weekends and morning depending on events programming.

At WBUR, our Engineering, Operations & IT department is pivotal to maintaining and advancing the technical infrastructure that supports our news production, content creation and its distribution. This department is responsible for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of broadcast equipment, digital platforms, communication networks, and live events. Within the Engineering, Operations & IT department, we are a team of 3 individuals providing audio visual support for CitySpace (https://www.wbur.org/events/about) at The Lavine Broadcast Center, our public convening space which hosts all types of live events including but not limited to forums, debates, musical acts, live radio broadcasts and rentals (https://www.wbur.org/events/rent-cityspace) .

As Technical Director, you will run Pan, Tilt, Zoom (PTZ) cameras for livestreaming and recording events. You will also be responsible for Front of House (FOH) and Back of House (BOH) mixing.

You will report to our CitySpace Technical Operations Manager and will be responsible for technical aspects of each event. In addition, you will assist with event technical staff coordination and request temporary / freelance help as needed.

Essential Functions:

  • (40%) Operate Pan, Tilt, Zoom (PTZ) cameras and vMix for livestreaming and recording of all events in CitySpace. Be familiar with audio consoles for Front of House (FOH) and Back of House (BOH), work with QLab playback, and request additional help when necessary.

  • (20%) Coordinate with Editorial and Rental teams to make sure event needs are met and offer guidance on lighting, audio and video design.

  • (20%) Work closely with Technical Operations Manager to ensure CitySpace venue is ready technically for each event. Assist with room setup including tables and chairs.

  • (20%) Troubleshoot issues and coordinate repairs of technical equipment within CitySpace.

This position is part of the SAG-AFTRA collective bargaining unit and comes with a minimum salary of $73,185.00. This amount can go up based on experience and internal equity.

Required Skills

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent/relevant experience. Associate’s or Bachelors degree in a related field is preferred.

  • 5-7 years of related experience in audio visual support.

  • Experience with but not limited to the following equipment:

  • vMix and Pan, Tilt, Zoom (PTZ) cameras

  • Yamaha CL5 audio consoles or equivalent

  • ION lighting consoles

  • Creston, New Tek, Panasonic, AJA video equipment

  • Absen video display and setup
