The Advising and Career Development Center (ACDC) at Western Kentucky University is seeking applicants for the position of Specialist, The Learning Center. The ACDC coordinates academic advising and retention activities for undergraduate students and academic departments across campus. The Learning Center (TLC) operates within the ACDC and provides academic support services. The position reports to the Assistant Director for Retention Programs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.

  • Oversee student employees for TLC (Peer Tutors and PASS Leaders), to include recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating, scheduling, supervising, approving payroll, and tracking student employment data

  • Maintain, train, and facilitate activities for TutorTrac (tutoring appointment software)

  • Maintain websites for TLC and TutorTrac

  • Compile and evaluate data within InfoView and TutorTrac

  • Promote and communicate with students, faculty, and staff about TLC services and resources

  • Assist with promotion of services offered by the ACDC

  • Work with students, faculty, and staff to improve tutoring and supplemental instruction and to create new academic support services to meet student needs

  • Communicate with faculty to coordinate and facilitate workshops as requested

  • Maintain TLC's College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification

  • Maintain and update an annual report describing services provided by TLC

  • Responsible for opening and securing ACDC and TLC office spaces

  • Maintain TLC study and tutoring spaces

  • Occasional evening and weekend hours

  • Able to work in a professional and collegial manner with faculty, staff, and students in the best interest of the college and the people it serves

  • Able to understand and maintain sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of students served by WKU, ACDC, and TLC

    Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Prior experience with student support

Salary: $35,568
