Qualifications High School Diploma. Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks with a minimum of direction. Respect confidentiality. Able to work cooperatively and effectively with others and accept supervision. Must be able to work irregular hours. Must be able to operate laser thermometer and electronic scale, have some computer skills Valid Driver's License preferred. Ability to use Salvation Army web-based timecard system. Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and Safe From Harm training must be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment. $14.00/hour, 25 hours/week 208 South 5th Street, Brainerd, MN 56401 Position Summary The Food Shelf and Warehouse Assistant is primarily responsible for unloading, sorting and stocking food received from local stores and the Food Bank. This is a part time position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities This job description is not all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential duties of the position. Other duties, responsibilities and tasks may be assigned by corps officer/administrator. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors and clients; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates. Support the Mission of The Salvation Army by treating every client, donor, and colleague with respect and dignity, and without discrimination of any kind. Engage all community members in a way that brings them to the Corps for programming, events, and Pathway of Hope. Help load and unload truckloads of food donations and record weights. Sort produce and discard what is unsuitable for human consumption according to FDA guidelines. Load waste for pig farmers pickup and record weights. Transport sorted food to the appropriate areas for distribution and/or storage. Keep food pantry fully stocked for at least two days distribution. Make sure perishable and frozen food is properly stored as soon as possible. Break down cardboard boxes and transport to cardboard dumpster. Keep work area clean and orderly. Work closely with food shelf coordinator, food shelf driver and volunteers. Work as a team member to support all efforts of The Salvation Army including but not limited to seasonal activities such as Christmas and School Supplies. Working Conditions While there are normally no hazardous or significantly unpleasant physical working conditions, human behavior is unpredictable. All staff members must be capable of intervening in an appropriate manner to resolve conflicts and sudden emergency events.
