Central Maine Medical Center Radiological Technologist II in Bridgton, Maine

Position Summary:

Performs a variety of imaging procedures and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Functions as one of the first line interfaces with customers in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs. Provides direct and indirect supervision of radiologic technology students.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.

  • Demonstrates understanding while practicing proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer’s and or supervisor’s instruction

  • Instructs and prepares patients for roentgenographic and/or fluoroscopic examinations.

  • Selects appropriate equipment to use for procedure.

  • Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly.

  • Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure - makes appropriate provider contact for intervention.

  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

  • Operates mobile fluoroscopy equipment during special radiographic examinations requiring special equipment and procedures such as biopsies, drainage orthopedic and spine procedures in a surgical or in department setting.

  • Programs portable or stationary x-ray machines and makes radiograms for a variety of examinations.

  • Manages radiographic image,

  • Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures.

  • Assists in maintaining records and reports.

  • Enters data via a computer terminal.

  • Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel.

  • Takes call according to a weekly schedule. Works weekends and/or holidays.

  • Works under the direction of the lead radiologist at each site as well as follows guidelines set by supervisors, managers or director of Imaging.

  • Completes all work competently and efficiently by the end of the shift.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of local fire and safety regulations.

  • Knowledgeable of hospital policies and the functions of the other departments.

  • Cooperates with the department’s performance improvement initiatives and compiles and maintains quality assurance information as requested.

  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population.

  • Interacts with all individuals in a consistent manner, providing attention, support, and assistance to foster an environment of exceptional personal service.

  • Serve as the champion of the patient and team member experience by providing an A+ experience to every patient and team member, every day.

  • Completes all work competently and efficiently by the end of the shift. This includes checking with the acute care areas of the hospital prior to leaving in order to expedite patient care.

  • Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed. Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc

  • Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination; documents and deviation.

  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population

  • Must be acquainted with local fire and safety regulations

  • Knowledgeable of hospital policies and the functions of other departments.

Education and Experience:

  • Prefer 1 or more years of radiologic/imaging and/or CT Scanning experience if performing CT.

  • Prefer CT Scanning Certification when performing CT or certification or secondary modality when appropriate for job duties.

  • Required -Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists required- and/or Nuclear Medicine Technologist with a current ARRT or NMTCB Certification in Computed Tomography

  • Current or within 1 month of hire American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BCLS certification. Re-certification of existing employees is due within 1 month of expiration date.

  • Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.

  • Possesses a high level of knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy when performing CT.

  • Proficiency with X-Ray and when performing CT will have knowledge or will be trained of CT equipment, hardware and software (GE, Siemens, Phillips, and Toshiba preferred.
