Position Summary :
Supports the development, ongoing care and community engagement at Karol’s Urban Community Farm at Castle Hill Houses, by coordinating and leading farm maintenance operations and conducting community outreach, workshops, workdays, demonstrations, and other activities at Karol’s Farm and other project sites.
Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and helps to build and maintain an inclusive organization culture throughout the institution.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities :
Conduct outreach and engage New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and other local residents in Karol’s Urban Community Farm and other garden projects
Organize and lead community workshops and workdays
Carry out planting, maintenance (including weeding, irrigation, composting, harvesting) and distribution of produce to NYCHA residents
Schedule and supervise interns and volunteers in farm activities
Organize and maintain materials, tools, garden inventory, database, and photos
Assists in documenting and evaluating activities through written reports, photos, tracking participation, produce distributed and garden projects
Assist with BGU events and outreach and educational activities as needed
• Other work as required
Qualifications :
Degree/certificate or equivalent experience in Urban Agriculture/Horticulture
Current NYCHA resident preferred
Experience with community organizing and/or engagement
Ability to plan, problem solve, work independently, and make efficient use of resources
Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and ability to work as a team player
Prior experience working in community gardening, urban agriculture, food justice and/or community health required
New York Driver’s License preferred
Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred
Familiarity with the Bronx and New York City preferred
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to, at minimum, work outdoors in all weather conditions in all seasons, stand, sit, crouch, kneel, and walk, use hand tools and power equipment, and lift and\or move up to 40 pounds. The employee is required to perform tasks repetitively

Baseline Work Schedule:
Tuesday- Saturday, 9-5pm
Salary: commensurate with experience within the range of $45,000-$50,000
