The Immersive Computing Lab (ICL) (https://www.immersivecomputinglab.org/) (Director, Qi Sun) at the Tandon School of Engineering, New York University is seeking to hire multiple part-time research scholar positions in a wide variety of research projects that are signature scopes of our multidisciplinary group. The ICL is home to a highly collaborative, vibrant group of young scholars, with complementary expertise across theory, experiments, and computation.

Expectations

We seek independent, motivated, and creative individuals to conduct fundamental research in the broad areas of virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR), computer graphics/vision, generative AI, and neural rendering. Candidates will be making important contributions to one or multiple research projects supported by our several ongoing grants (see ICL: Research (https://www.immersivecomputinglab.org/research/) ).

Candidates will be responsible for conducting research in the areas of theoretical and statistical modeling of human visual and multimodal perception/behaviors, generative diffusion models, cloud-based computer graphics, as well as neural rendering (e.g., neural radiance fields and 3D Gaussian splatting).

Salary range

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is $26.37 to $34.34, depending on the candidate’s experience and qualification. The position is scheduled for 27 hours per week.

Ideal candidates are expected to have:

i) the drive to pursue an excellent career in research upon completion of their training;

ii) a iii) a demonstrated ability to conduct original research (theoretical, experimental, or computational), as evidenced by high-quality journal and conference publications;

iv) Mastery of the English language with outstanding oral and written communication skills;

v) a strong work ethic with the ability to work independently as well as in a research group;

vi) evidence of good project/laboratory management skills; and

vii) the ability to strategize the goals of projects as well as design, conduct, and interpret experiments, under the mentorship of the Principal Investigator.

Ideal candidates should have a B.S/M.Sc./Ph.D. in computer science, mathematics, neuroscience, vision science, or related fields. Candidates will be required to present eligibility to work in the United States.
